Overview
We are seeking an experienced and clinically grounded Clinical Director to oversee and lead the clinical operations of our behavioral health programs. The ideal candidate is a licensed mental health professional with strong leadership, supervision, and organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to balance clinical excellence with operational oversight. This role is responsible for supervising clinical staff and interns, maintaining documentation quality, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented treatment environment. The Clinical Director will collaborate closely with program leadership and maintain a partial caseload while providing oversight of clinical services, group programming, and coordination of care.
Compensation: Pay will be determined based on licensure, experience, and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all clinical operations to ensure high-quality, ethical, and effective delivery of mental health services.
Supervise and support licensed and associate clinicians, interns, and clinical staff, including providing formal clinical supervision in accordance with licensing board requirements.
Maintain a partial caseload of therapy clients, including individual, family, and group sessions as needed.
Audit clinical charts regularly to ensure accuracy, timeliness, medical necessity, and compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
Review and approve clinical documentation including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and coordination-of-care documentation.
Facilitate and coordinate clinical groups as needed, ensuring alignment with program curriculum and treatment goals.
Oversee clinical quality assurance and quality improvement activities, including utilization review and corrective action planning.
Collaborate with the Program Director, medical providers, case managers, admissions, and administrative staff to determine appropriate levels of care and continuity of treatment.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., DHCS, TJC/JCAHO, and other governing agencies).
Provide leadership in staff development, training, performance evaluation, and professional growth.
Utilize and oversee clinical technology and EMR systems to support documentation, compliance, communication, and workflow efficiency.
Participate in program development, clinical policy creation, and ongoing evaluation of treatment effectiveness.
Qualifications
Active, unrestricted licensure as an LPCC, LMFT, LCSW, PhD, or equivalent licensed mental health professional eligible to provide clinical supervision.
Prior clinical supervision experience required, including supervision of associates and/or interns.
Experience auditing clinical charts and ensuring compliance with documentation and medical necessity standards.
Strong working knowledge of behavioral health regulations, accreditation standards, and ethical guidelines.
Experience with EMR systems and clinical technology.
Ability to lead, mentor, and manage multidisciplinary clinical teams in a collaborative, trauma-informed environment.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience in mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment settings preferred (OP, IOP, PHP, or residential).
