This position is full-time; 35 hours per week.
Role and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, the Clerical Specialist performs various administrative support duties for vital statistics and environmental health services.
Experience and Education Requirements
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in an administrative capacity or the equivalent in education and work experience. Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Excellent customer service skills required, including written and verbal. Past experience with data entry and computer databases required. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a background in customer service.
Valid Ohio driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Essential duties
Maintains Environmental Health Department files.
Conducts billing and issues receipts for payments received.
Completes scanning and data entry.
Performs various administrative duties for the department, including preparing reports, composing correspondence, answering phone calls, etc.
Plans, develops, and evaluates the vital statistics service
Monitors state vital statistics policies and procedures and applicable laws
Collects, organizes, and analyzes vital statistics information
Assumes responsibility for the accurate collection and recording of monies coming into the Vital Statistics Office (e.g., receives cash and checks for services; verifies identity of the individual issuing payment; issues receipts; etc.)
Issues burial permits, certified birth and death certificates; provides consultation and assistance to physicians, funeral directors, and the public on vital statistics matters.
Attends staff meetings and serves on temporary committees, as requested, and is required to be punctual at these meetings.
Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, training seminars, and in-service training.

Working Conditions
Answers telephone calls and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, copier and fax machines, etc. Individual bends, reaches, pushes, and pulls file drawers to file information.
Vision abilities required are up close vision and the ability to adjust and focus.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
