The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The responsibility of maintaining these vast networks falls under the Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO).
The primary responsibilities of the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations are: the operation, maintenance and protection of the City’s drinking water and wastewater collection (sewer) systems; the protection of adjacent waterways; and the development and protection of the Department’s Capital Water and Sewer Design Program.
The Division of Field Operations has the overall responsibility for maintaining and operating the water distribution and sewer collection systems. Included in the division's activities are responding to customer complaints, repairing pipe, valves, hydrants, catch basins and street hardware, performing leak surveys, operating an inventory control function which serves the bureau, private plumbers, DDC contracts and responding to emergencies such as fires. Field Operations is responsible for the coordination of personnel, equipment and materials when responding to water main breaks, sewer breaks, major floods, hydrant alerts, water quality alerts and other emergency response situations.
The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations is seeking to hire 2 candidates for the title of Clerical Associate III in the Division of BWSO Field Operations in various locations and shifts.
The candidate will be performing the following duties:
- Handles staff administrative duties, including those related to shop operations
- Performs clerical or administrative tasks of moderate difficulty
- Creates and updates work order tickets electronically
- Receives and transmits radio and telephone messages.
- Types and operates other automated office equipment
- Prepares spreadsheets to keep track of attendance for the Fields workers and administers Timekeeping Procedures

CLERICAL ASSOCIATE - 10251
Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
