It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission

In the framework of its programs for the valorization and transfer of research results, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is coordinating CLARIAH-CAT, one of the new R&D&I networks from Xarxes R+D+DI Programme (AGAUR), focused in Digital Humanities.

The network includes the main digital humanities’ research groups from all Catalan universities, as well as public administrations and companies from the sector and civil society. Its goal is to share data, tools, and standards, and to transfer research results to education, culture, and the cultural industry. Inspired by and connected to European research infrastructures such as CLARIN and DARIAH, CLARIAH-CAT acts as the Catalan node linking methods and resources in language technologies, digitization (2D/3D), computer vision, GIS, and cultural heritage management. The network promotes open science (FAIR data, open repositories, reusable software), develops shared services and guidelines for creating and managing digital cultural assets, and fosters training and co-creation with both professionals and the public.

We are looking for the Network promoter. This is the person responsible for leading and coordinating the CLARIAH-CAT network, ensuring the execution of its goals and compliance with deadlines and quality standards,fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary research and cultural institutions, promoting the integration of digital infrastructures, and driving international outreach and engagement efforts to establish CLARIAH-CAT as a leading digital Humanities Hub. The promoter role also involves facilitating the promotion and visibility of members' research, ensuring open accessibility and interoperability of their resources not only within CLARIAH-CAT, but also within the CLARIN and DARIAH infrastructures.

Key Duties

Leading the execution and monitoring of the work plan and milestones with collaboration of the Innovation Officer and the Project Manager, according to the granted application (available on demand).
Coordinate interdisciplinary research clusters and support knowledge transfer activities, identifying opportunities for valorization of digital cultural assets, including new markets for digital cultural products and services (leisure, education, self-learning).
Definition of the specifications of an Open Platform for Research and Innovation in Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage in collaboration with a Technical Engineer.
Preparation of a curated catalogue of research digital resources in digital humanities and heritage (datasets, publications, visualizations, exhibitions, etc.), in collaboration with the Innovation Officer.
Organize and oversee collaborative activities among research groups from different institutions, including universities, research centers, and cultural entities.
Ensure alignment and facilitate synergies between CLARIAH-CAT and European digital infrastructures CLARIN and DARIAH.
Motivate broad participation in co-creation activities, including citizen science initiatives, and promote open, participatory engagement across the whole value chain (universities, libraries, museums, tech enterprises, media, etc).
Develop strategies for long-term sustainability, including technological maintenance, governance models, and adoption pathways beyond the academic sector.
Plan and execute communication and dissemination activities, including events, exhibitions, conferences, and community outreach, to promote heritage awareness in collaboration with the Communications specialist.


Requirements

Education
PhD or Master's degree in computer science, data science, computational linguistics, or a closely related STEM discipline. If the applicant also holds a degree in a humanities discipline (philology, history, art history, library and information science), this will be considered a significant advantage.
Previous experience in managing multi-stakeholders professional networks and/or projects
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Understanding of digital humanities and cultural heritage methodologies
Solid knowledge of AI, NLP, and machine learning frameworks
Experience in integrating research results into data infrastructures
Experience in leading real-world AI and deep learning projects focused on the preservation and digitization of cultural heritage, as well as AI projects in the social sciences domain (such as social networks, media, and related areas)
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience collaborating with cultural heritage institutions will be highly valued.
Experience, or active involvement in the establishment or development of CLARIAH nodes will be regarded as a valuable asset
Experience in technology transfer and/or open innovation activities
Competences

Leadership and coordination: clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders, vision alignment across multidisciplinary teams, mediation/conflict resolution, and resource priorization

Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department
We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
Starting date: ASAP

Development of the recruitment process


The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:


Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.

The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.


In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.


The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
