Employment Type: Full-Time Union Hourly
Compensation: $40.81-$50.04/hr. + 11.5% vacation pay, union pension and benefits
Position Overview
Chew Excavating Ltd., a Ralmax Company, has an opening for Civil Foreman in our Utilities Division.
We are seeking an experienced Civil Utilities Foreman to lead field operations in our BC Hydro infrastructure division in the Greater Victoria area. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising crews, coordinating daily work activities, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to BC Hydro specifications.
The Foreman acts as the key link between field crews and project management, driving productivity, quality, and jobsite performance.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of crews, operators, and subcontractors
Plan and execute work in accordance with drawings, specifications, and schedule
Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company and regulatory standards
Maintain production targets while controlling costs and minimizing downtime
Coordinate materials, equipment, and labour requirements for upcoming work
Communicate regularly with the Superintendent and Project Manager on progress, risks, site conditions and schedule
Lead daily toolbox meetings, complete hazard assessments and safety enforcement
Monitor quality of work and ensure deficiencies are corrected promptly
Complete daily reports, timesheets, and site documentation, as-built drawings, etc.
Train, mentor, and develop crew members
Qualifications
Experience in BC Hydro Utilities and underground utilities installation (earthworks, utilities, roadworks, or excavation)
2+ years in a Foreman or lead-hand role
Strong understanding of local civil construction methods, sequencing, and equipment
Ability to read and interpret drawings, grades, and specifications
Proven leadership and crew management skills
Solid communication and problem-solving ability
Valid driver’s license (Class 5 minimum; Class 1/3 considered an asset)
Preferred Experience
Municipal infrastructure (water, sewer, storm)
BC Hydro Specifications and installations
Site servicing, underground utility installation and road works
Experience working in urban or high-traffic environments
Certifications (Assets)
First Aid (OFA Level 1 or higher)
Confined Space / Ground Disturbance Level II
PSSP Certification
Equipment operation experience preferred
