Civil Drafting Engineer, Intern

We are seeking a motivated Civil Drafting Engineering Intern to support the design and development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and PV Hybrid renewable energy projects. This role will focus on civil design drafting, site layouts, and permitting support. The intern will work closely with civil engineers, land developers, and project managers to develop high-quality design drawings that support project development, construction, and regulatory compliance.

• Paid, full-time summer internship

• The internship period is June 8, 2026 - August 14, 2026

• Must be based in Austin, TX, or willing to relocate for the duration of the internship period

• Will be required to work in person from the office located in the Domain

Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing and revising site development drawings for BESS and PV Hybrid facilities;

• Develop and update CAD drawings, including site layout plans, technical specification, and gen tie exhibits;

• Incorporate redlines and design changes into exhibits;

• Support environmental compliance efforts by drafting exhibits for permitting (e.g., wetlands, buffers, setbacks, floodplains);

• Maintain organized drawing files, drawing logs, and revision histories;

• Coordinate with engineering and development teams to ensure drawings align with project scope, standards, and regulatory requirements;

• Assist with basic civil calculations as directed;

• Review drawings for consistency with company standards and applicable codes;

• Assist in updating and maintaining design templates using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, to support project documentation and drafting standards.

Key Qualifications: 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, or a related field, and progressing toward at least Junior year standing;

• Coursework or basic experience in civil/site design or environmental engineering principles, including: Surveying, Hydrology, Soil Mechanics, AutoCAD Drafting, or Environmental Systems;

• Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or similar;

• Basic understanding of programming to create scripts in VBA/Matlab/Python;

• Understanding of engineering drawings, scales, and drafting standards;

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks;

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience or coursework related to:

• Site grading, drainage, or stormwater management;

• Environmental permitting or regulatory compliance;

• Renewable energy infrastructure (solar, BESS, substations, or transmission);

• Exposure to GIS data, topographic surveys, or environmental constraints mapping;

• Knowledge of erosion and sediment control practices;

• Familiarity with state or local permitting processes, or willingness to learn these requirements as a part of this role.
