Child Development Center Assistant Director
Greater Peace Community Development Corporation (GPCDC)
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Center Director
Work Schedule:
Option 1: 6:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch)
Option 2: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch)
(Schedule varies based on center needs)
Position Summary
The Assistant Director supports the Center Director, staff, and students. This role requires strong administrative, instructional, and regulatory knowledge, including CACFP, Alabama DHR licensing, and OSR (Office of School Readiness) standards.
The Assistant Director assists with staff supervision, classroom quality, family engagement, documentation, and center compliance, while fostering a positive, professional, and mission-driven environment for children, families, and staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Administration
Support the Director in daily center operations and decision-making
Serve as acting Director in the Director’s absence
Assist with staff supervision, coaching, scheduling, and performance support
Help onboard, train, and mentor teaching and support staff
Model professionalism, accountability, and ethical leadership
Compliance & Licensing (DHR & OSR)
Ensure compliance with Alabama DHR Child Care Licensing Standards
Support OSR quality standards, documentation, and monitoring
Maintain organized records for licensing visits, audits, and inspections
Assist in preparing for and responding to unannounced monitoring visits
Ensure classroom ratios, attendance, and staff credentials are maintained
CACFP Oversight
Support implementation of CACFP meal patterns and requirements
Monitor meal counts, production records, and documentation for accuracy
Collaborate with food service staff to ensure compliance
Assist with CACFP reviews, audits, and corrective actions if needed
Program Quality & Instructional Support
Support curriculum implementation and classroom observations
Ensure developmentally appropriate practices are followed
Assist teachers with lesson planning, classroom management, and assessments
Promote a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment
Family & Community Engagement
Support positive communication with families
Assist with enrollment, orientation, and parent concerns
Represent the center professionally within the community
Support family engagement activities and events
Team Culture & Workplace Environment
Help create a positive, respectful, and collaborative work culture
Address concerns professionally and escalate issues appropriately
Promote teamwork, morale, and staff accountability
Uphold GPCDC’s mission, values, and community-centered approach
Required Qualifications
Child Development Associate (CDA) or 120 Early Childhood Course Hours – Required
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a licensed child development center
Experience as a performing director, assistant director, and in administrative duties
Knowledge of DHR licensing standards, CACFP, and OSR
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to multitask and manage confidential information
Reliable, dependable, and professional
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Experience assisting with licensing visits, audits, or corrective action plans
Supervisory or lead teacher experience
Experience in nonprofit or community-based childcare settings
Familiarity with Alabama quality rating systems and monitoring tools
Compensation (Comparable Pay)
Suggested Pay Range:
💲 $16.00–$20.00 per hour, based on:
Education and credentials
Years of experience
Demonstrated leadership and compliance knowledge
(This range is consistent with Assistant Director roles in licensed childcare centers and nonprofit programs in Alabama.)
