Why this role matters

At its core, Alma is a high volume lending factory, issuing more than 20,000 loans every single day. Real time underwriting, seamless consumer experience, securitized refinancing, integrations with e-commerce and payment platforms and much more - our product is highly technical in nature, and our Engineering team plays a key role in helping us win with the best product. We are looking to hire our next Chief Technical Officer not only to manage this team, but also to prepare it for our next chapters of growth with a relentless focus on continuous improvement culture.

What you’ll do

Set the vision and unlock innovation

• Define a compelling long‑term engineering vision aligned with Alma’s business strategy ;and translate it into a clear, measurable roadmap.

• Drive continuous modernization of our platform to unlock scalability, reliability, security, and long‑term innovation.

• Champion data‑ and AI‑ driven capabilities that differentiate Alma’s product experience and engineering operational efficiency.

Lead execution and deliver impact

• Empower 100+ engineers across Product Engineering, Platform, Data & AI, and Solutions Engineering to ship high‑quality products and features with predictable velocity.

• Drive production excellence: high availability, performance, incident readiness, and rigorous SLAs.

• Elevate engineering effectiveness through world‑class practices in architecture, developer experience, testing, observability.

Build an inspiring engineering culture

• Attract, grow, and retain top talent while nurturing a culture of ownership, learning.

• Coach leaders to scale the organization; instill clarity in roles, operating mechanisms, and decision‑making.

• Champion a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work.

Partner across the business

• Operate as a strategic partner to Product; align on outcomes, prioritize ruthlessly, and optimize for customer impact.

• Collaborate closely with Business, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to anticipate trends, derisk execution, and accelerate growth in a regulated, multi‑country environment.

Lead thought leadership and industry influence

• Represent Alma on stage, with investors, and across the tech ecosystem

• Share our practices and elevate Alma as a leading technology company.

• Shape industry dialogue and standards around responsible BNPL, platform reliability, security, and data & AI ethics.

About you

As one of Alma’s most senior leaders and a member of the Director’s Committee, you bring:

• Proven ability to manage scale and complexity: led 100+ engineers, built leaders, managed managers of managers (multi‑country and/or regulated environments a plus).

• Outstanding people leadership: you elevate teams, grow talent rapidly, and build resilient, high‑trust organizations.

• A growth mindset with a track record of continuously improving engineering organizations.

• Excellent communication — written and verbal — including executive influence and public speaking with large audiences.

• Strong strategic acumen: you anticipate business trends and translate them into clear technical goals and adaptable plans.

• High energy, decisive leadership, and the ability to rally engineers and cross‑functional partners around ambitious goals.

• Deep technical expertise in high‑availability, high‑throughput systems, platform architecture, and operational excellence.

• Curiosity beyond pure engineering, with broad interests that inform product and business thinking.
