Quick Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief of Staff to join our global team as a key member of our leadership team.

Job Description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Primary Function of Position

The Chief of Staff is the senior strategic and operational leader responsible for ensuring the effectiveness, alignment, and performance of Intuitive’s Global Enterprise Procurement (GEP) organization. Acting as the Head of Global Enterprise Procurement’s trusted advisor, integrator, and executive delegate, this role drives organizational clarity, operational discipline, cross-functional coordination, and strategic execution across the function.

This position oversees the day-to-day administrative, personnel, financial, and procedural operations of the function, ensures operational continuity across locations, and leads the execution of enterprise-critical programs and the end-to-end Source-to-Pay (S2P) roadmap. The Chief of Staff ensures the Head of Global Enterprise Procurement’s priorities are realized, decisions are operationalized, and the organization functions cohesively, efficiently, and at scale.

This role requires exceptional executive presence, systems thinking, influence, communication, and the ability to drive outcomes through others across Finance, IT, Legal, Compliance, Quality, Regulatory, HR, and Business Units.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Executive Partner & Strategic Advisor to the CPO

• Serve as the Head of Global Enterprise Procurement’s right hand—anticipating needs, shaping priorities, preparing strategic inputs, and ensuring follow-through across the organization.

• Translate the Head of Global Enterprise Procurement’s strategic direction into actionable plans, organizational initiatives, and aligned workstreams.

• Lead executive-level communications, including strategic updates, and organizational narratives.

• Serve as the primary liaison between the Head of Global Enterprise Procurement and senior leadership teams, ensuring clarity, alignment, and timely decision-making.

• Act as a proxy for the Head of Global Enterprise Procurement in meetings, decisions, escalations, and business engagements as appropriate.

2. Organizational & Functional Operations Leadership

• Oversee day-to-day operational, administrative, financial, and procedural activities for the Global Enterprise Procurement function.

• Lead the development, deployment, and adoption of common management practices across locations and teams.

• Ensure operational continuity, performance tracking, and integrated service delivery across multiple functions and sites.

• Manage personnel processes (resource planning, headcount tracking, talent development, role clarity, and organizational design).

• Direct cost structure analysis, service level evaluation, operational reviews, and productivity measures to achieve functional targets.

• Act as the connective tissue between management and staff—improving communication, alignment, and organizational efficiency.

3. Strategic Program Leadership & Transformation Management

• Lead enterprise-critical transformation initiatives, including process modernization, system upgrades, organizational redesign, and global program expansion.

• Manage governance structures, program timelines, executive updates, and cross-functional coordination required for program success.

• Build and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics that provide visibility to functional health and strategic outcomes.

• Ensure risks, constraints, dependencies, and cross-functional impacts are surfaced early and managed proactively.

4. S2P Strategy, Governance & Technology Enablement

• Drive the unified Source-to-Pay strategy for the Global Enterprise Procurement organization.

• Standardize processes, policies, documentation, and operating procedures across Global Enterprise Procurement.

• Oversee procurement technology implementation including requirements gathering, testing coordination, training, adoption, and communication.

• Partner with Procurement Operations, IT, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and other functions to ensure seamless integration and governance across the S2P lifecycle.

• Ensure data integrity, process discipline, and compliance across the S2P ecosystem.

5. Strategic Sourcing Enablement & Supplier Oversight (Governance Role)

• Provide leadership, support, and oversight for strategic sourcing and supplier management teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

• Ensure sourcing strategies and supplier governance align to functional priorities, risk tolerances, and enterprise objectives.

• Guide escalations, contract governance, issue resolution, and supplier performance reviews when strategic or cross-functional in nature.

• Support financial modeling, value tracking, and portfolio-level visibility on Procurement impact.

Required Skills and Experience

• 15+ years of experience in Procurement, Operations, S2P, Transformation, or related enterprise functions.

• 5+ years leading teams or multi-functional workstreams in a global, matrixed environment.

• Proven experience operating as a Chief of Staff, senior program leader, or executive advisor.

• Strong operational leadership experience (non-manufacturing), including administrative, financial, personnel, and process oversight.

• Exceptional executive presence with the ability to influence, communicate, and align across senior leadership teams.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional programs with enterprise-level impact.

• Deep understanding of Procurement operations, processes, governance, and S2P systems.

• Ability to think strategically, execute operationally, and manage ambiguity while driving clarity and outcomes.

• Superior analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Experience leading organizational change management, stakeholder engagement, and adoption planning.

• PMP or equivalent program management certification preferred.

• Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., medical device) desirable.

Required Education and Training

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required (Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, or related discipline preferred).

• Advanced degree or certification in strategy, operations, procurement, or program management preferred.
