Are you the one we’re looking for?
We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated CHEF (SUPERVISOR) who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.
The CHEF (SUPERVISOR) is
responsible for delivering food services for our diverse customer base, including Wesley’s program clients and external catering customers. The Chef must be adept with global flavors and meals that are high-end or home-style; elevated or budget; and individually packed or buffet style.
The Chef supervises and empowers a team of Sous Chefs and Cooks to execute daily operations in alignment with Wesley’s vision, mission, values and strategic plan. The collaborative role is split between active cooking and in-kitchen leadership, and administrative tasks using Microsoft365. Located at 467 Main Street East, and other sites as required.
Shifts are typically during the daytime, between Monday-Sunday. Must have flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends.
It is a unionized, full-time permanent position, at 40 hours per week; paid $27.43 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with Front-Line Staff to execute daily kitchen and food service operations, including meal programs and catering services for a diverse customer base.
Assign work, provide support, and supervise Front-Line Staff to ensure effective and efficient operations in line with operating manuals and within the general policies, contractual obligations, and best practices of the sector.
Support the Manager to resolve issues, from day-to-day workflow challenges to more formal disciplinary processes when required, and act as emergency on-call support for kitchen operations.
Communicate professionally with internal programs, external customers, and service providers (e.g., suppliers and vendors) regarding meal requirements, catering logistics, operational needs, and service feedback.
Supervise and support staff to implement procedures that manage and mitigate operational risks, and report concerns related to performance, food safety, or service delivery in a timely manner.
Participate in service evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous improvement activities, and make procedural and operational recommendations as necessary.
Plan and deliver food services within approved budgets and costing ratios, and oversee inventory management, ordering procedures, and waste reduction practices
Create and manage staff schedules and staffing coverages, and participate in hiring of Front-Line staff.
Work with the Manager to train, coach, mentor, and support Front-Line Staff through onboarding, regular supervision, participation in performance reviews and ongoing training.
Participate as a member of Wesley’s Supervisor team, supporting general organizational and leadership development.
What you will bring:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising kitchen teams; experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset.
Post-secondary diploma or degree is required; culinary education or certification is an asset.
Minimum 5 years of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen, including, catering and special event preparation.
Proficient with productivity software including Outlook Excel, Word, and Sharepoint.
