Job Description
The Chassis Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining intermodal chassis and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant operation. This role supports daily operations by minimizing equipment downtime and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on chassis, trailers, and related equipment
Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including brakes, suspension systems, air systems, lights, tires, axles, and frames
Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and regulatory requirements
Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
Document repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities accurately
Identify safety concerns and report issues that could impact operations
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Work closely with operations and yard personnel to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
Follow all company safety policies and procedure
Required and Preferred Skills/Abilities:
Welding experience
Previous experience as a chassis mechanic, trailer mechanic, or similar role
Familiar with DOT and FMCSA regulations
Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred)
Able to work flexible hours
Familiar with 90 Day BIT Inspections and Annual FMCSA Inspections
Familiar with tire replacement and patchingÂ
