About the Role:
The Charge Staff DSP provides leadership and daily oversight in a residential home in the absence of the Program Manager or Administrator. This role ensures the health, safety, and well-being of individuals supported while maintaining a person-centered environment. Charge Staff assist with staff coordination, home maintenance, scheduling, medication support, and overall quality of care. Your responsibilities may include:
Leadership & Oversight
Provide leadership in the home when Program Manager/Administrator is unavailable.
Support staff performance through coaching, training, and communication.
Ensure the home meets expectations for cleanliness, safety, and DHEC compliance.
Home Operations
Assist with staffing coverage, scheduling, and communication across shifts.
Manage grocery/supply ordering within budget.
Report maintenance needs and follow up on completion.
Complete monthly documentation packets and ensure Therap documentation accuracy.
Medication & Health Support
Maintain medication organization, reorders, and documentation.
Train new staff on medication processes.
Support individuals with daily living skills, hygiene, meals, and community activities.
Crisis & Emergency Response
Respond to injuries, emergencies, hospitalizations, and critical incidents.
Ensure timely communication with families and guardians.
LSP Responsibilities
De-escalate behaviors while respecting dignity.
Provide ADL support and implement training programs.
Keep individuals safe, accounted for, and engaged in meaningful activities.
Working Environment
Residential home/apartment setting.
Requires flexibility for evenings, nights, weekends, inclement weather, and on‑call needs.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist individuals as needed.
What You’ll Need:
Minimum age: 18
High school diploma or equivalent
A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in human services is required.
Experience with management or supervision a plus.
Knowledge of person-centered services and general understanding of policies and procedures as they relate to people with disabilities also preferred.
Valid driver’s license and Social Security number
Basic computer and documentation skills
Ability to pass required background and reference checks
Physical Requirements: This role involves regular standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and hands-on support. Reasonable accommodations are available.
Work Location Flexibility: While this position is assigned to our BMS location, Direct Support Professionals may be required to work at other Charles Lea Center sites as needed based on staffing and operational needs.
