Job Title: Director of Finance / Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Colusa, California (with potential for remote work or relocation)

Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

About MACC

The Ministerial Association of Colusa County (MACC) is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving charitable and community endeavors. We manage a range of programs, including community health services, food assistance, and benevolence outreach throughout the counties of Colusa, Glenn, Tehama, Butte, Shasta, Yuba, Sutter, and Yolo. MACC exists to glorify God and share the good news of Jesus Christ through support, cooperation, and charitable works among associated members and participants.

Position Overview

The Director of Finance / CFO is a senior leadership position responsible for managing the financial operations and strategic direction of MACC. This role will oversee financial planning, analysis, reporting, compliance, and risk management, ensuring sound financial stewardship across MACC’s programs and services. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of operational finance expertise, strategic leadership, and nonprofit financial management experience to the organization.

This position will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure long-term financial sustainability while helping shape the organization's growth and mission impact.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Strategy

Lead the development and execution of financial strategies, policies, and objectives aligned with MACC’s mission and vision.

Provide strategic financial insight to the Executive Leadership Team, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.

Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and long-term financial plans, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to programs and operations.

Financial Operations

Oversee all day-to-day financial activities, including financial reporting, accounting, payroll, AR/AP, and internal controls.

Manage and optimize cash flow, investments, and capital management

Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting to meet regulatory requirements and provide information to stakeholders.

Compliance & Risk Management

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including preparing for and overseeing the annual audit process.

Coordinate with attorneys and accountants to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal government requirements and file necessary documentation in a timely manner.

Monitor organizational financial performance and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Ensure risk management strategies are in place, including insurance, reserves, and financial policies.

Team Leadership & Development

Supervise and mentor finance staff, ensuring professional growth and development.

Cultivate a collaborative and high-performing team culture within the finance department.

Lead cross-functional teams in implementing financial strategies and systems.

Board & Stakeholder Relations

Provide financial reports to the Board of Directors and executive team, including financial statements, budget performance, and financial forecasts.

Meet with and keep the Executive Director regularly informed of financial performance, risks, and opportunities.

Meet periodically with the Board Treasurer to review financial status, discuss performance, and address any concerns.

Support board decision-making through clear and accurate financial reporting and analysis.

Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, auditors, and funding organizations.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered for well-seasoned professionals without formal academic credentials.

10+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with a significant portion of that time spent in nonprofit organizations.

Strong background in nonprofit financial operations, including grant management, fund accounting, and budgeting.

Experience working with a diverse range of funding sources, including grants, donations, and earned revenue.

Skills & Abilities

Proven ability to develop financial strategies and align them with organizational goals.

Expertise in financial forecasting, budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.

Strong leadership skills with experience in managing, mentoring, and developing finance teams.

Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, auditing processes, and regulatory compliance.
