Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage financial records, ensure accurate bookkeeping, and support the firm’s financial health through precise accounting practices. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and passionate about maintaining financial integrity within a dynamic legal environment.
Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks.
Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliation.
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes efficiently to ensure timely payments and collections.
Perform all accounts receivable functions
Pay vendor bills and manage accounts payable
Perform all data entry of cash receipts and client costs in billing and accounting systems
Perform all data entry of cash receipts and disbursements for the IOLTA trust account
Process credit card transactions
Work up and make bank deposits for the operating and IOLTA accounts
Assist with payroll functions and insurance processing
Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations regularly to verify data accuracy.
Prepare detailed financial reports, including budgeting, account analysis, and financial report writing for internal review.
Handle payroll processing with precision while ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Support governmental accounting requirements and assist with tax preparation activities when needed.
Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance or similar field
CPA certification
Proven experience in law firm accounting or similar environments.
Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
Strong understanding of GAAP standards, double-entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and journal entries.
Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation processes.
Knowledge of law firm accounting practices and tax experience is a plus.
Ability to perform 10 key typing efficiently for data entry tasks.
Prior experience in public accounting or technical accounting roles is highly desirable.
