Job Description

Full Time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for Inpatient/Outpatient

Monday - Friday with every fourth (4th) weekend rotation

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant – Inpatient/Outpatient is a skilled technical worker who is a graduate of a COTA accredited program.  A COTA performs occupational therapy treatments and related duties as delegated by the Occupational Therapist.  This work is carried out under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Hold an active and current Minnesota Department of Health Occupational Therapy Assistant License.

Hold an active and current certification through The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Able to use theoretical knowledge in the rehabilitation of residents through therapeutic sessions.

Ongoing attendance of educational seminars to maintain license(s) as required by practice acts for CEU credits.

 Must be patient and appreciative of realistic needs and goals of all clients.

Genuine interest in persons with physical and psychological disabilities.

Good physical and mental health.

Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.

Must be able to communicate effectively with members of the health care team, clients, residents, families, visitors, vendors, and all others that OT would have interactions with.

Must be able to follow Rehab policies and procedures as instructed and applicable to job responsibilities.

Must maintain work and client/resident confidentiality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare clients/residents, treatment areas and equipment in a manner that assures the client’s/resident’s dignity, personal care, security, and privacy.

Implement a planned treatment program by utilizing exercise, physical agents, assistive and/or supportive devices and other treatment procedures and equipment designed to:

Maintain and/or restore strength, endurance, coordination, relaxation, and range of motion.

Promote healing.

Relieve pain.

Improve functional level.

Respond promptly to acute changes in physiological state and report and record pertinent changes.

Modify treatment techniques in conference with the Registered Occupational Therapist.

Teach the clients/residents, families, or other health care providers to perform selected treatment procedures and functional activities.

Directly assist the Occupational Therapist in performing complex evaluation and/or treatment procedures.

Perform and record as specified in the planned treatment program, non-evaluative ongoing data gatherings, such as: measurement procedures for vital signs, strength, range of motion, ambulation aids.

Record results of tests and evaluations performed by the Registered Occupational Therapist.

Respond to the psychological support needs of the clients/residents and family.

Communicate appropriately and effectively with personnel and document according to professional standards.

Keep department neat, clean, and orderly.

Assess residents for rehab nursing needs and recommend modifications and changes as indicated.

Demonstrate to nursing staff appropriate procedures involved in the treatment process.

Complete daily documentation within facility guidelines.

Complete daily billing

Serve as Occupational Therapy Consultant to any other departments at Country Manor seeking guidance/information or as requested by Rehab Director

Maintain correct and current information on all Occupational Therapy patient care plans. Respect staff suggestions for alterations in schedule, treatment, or treatment status.

Conduct in-services when requested to do so by Rehab Director.

Complete appropriate requested insurance forms (i.e. prior authorization, certification)

Participate/give input in Discharge Planning sessions.

 Provide input to keep Rehab Department current with equipment and Occupational Therapy needs.

Maintain productivity standards as directed by Director of Rehab

Other duties as assigned.
