Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers in a medical office, clinic, or outpatient setting. This role is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing routine clinical tasks, and ensuring efficient office operations while maintaining compliance with Montana state regulations and organizational standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Greet and prepare patients for examination, obtain and record vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints.
Assist healthcare providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
Perform routine clinical tasks such as administering injections, drawing blood, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and performing EKGs.
Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and adequate supply levels.
Accurately document patient information in electronic health records (EHR) in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Schedule patient appointments, manage referrals, and coordinate follow-up care as directed.
Provide patient education regarding medications, procedures, and physician instructions.
Maintain inventory of medical and office supplies; order as needed.
Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality assurance protocols.
Assist with front office duties, including answering phones, verifying insurance, and processing billing as needed.
Respond to medical emergencies and assist with basic life support as required.
Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education to maintain certification and stay current with best practices.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT required.
Previous experience in a medical office or clinical setting preferred.
Required Certifications or Licenses
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited certifying body (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Valid Montana driver’s license (if job duties include patient transport or off-site assignments).
Physical and Other Job Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate medical equipment and perform clinical procedures.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings.
Professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and commitment to patient confidentiality.

Reports to: Clinic Manager, Practice Administrator, or Supervising Provider (depending on organizational structure).
