He angituutanga: The opportunity 
Our Building team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of buildings across the city—and we’re looking for a Certification Officer to join us.
Working closely with our Building Inspection team, you’ll be responsible for assessing building documentation and supporting the issuing of Code Compliance Certificates and Compliance Schedules. You’ll help ensure buildings meet legislative requirements while balancing risk and customer expectations.
This is a detail-focused role with a strong customer interface. You’ll work alongside owners, designers, and building practitioners to resolve issues and support positive outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
• Assessing building consents and inspection information for Code Compliance Certificates and Compliance Schedules
• Maintaining compliance schedules in line with the Building Act 2004 and customer expectations
• Reviewing verification and certification documentation to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards
• Responding to and investigating complaints relating to alleged breaches of the Building Act
• Maintaining accurate records, including legal documentation and photographic evidence
• Supporting continuous improvement of processes and systems
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to resolve building-related matters
• Providing responsive, professional service to customers

• NZ technical qualification, Regulation 18 would be preferred
• Experience working in a regulatory or compliance environment
• Understanding of building legislation and the construction industry (preferred)
• Experience in inspection, investigation, or building-related work with a customer interface (preferred)
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work
• Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Confident communication and relationship-building skills
• Competency with Microsoft Office
• Local government experience would be advantageous but are not essential.

Circa $90,000 dependent on skills and experience.
