Sanofi is looking for a cell culture development and modelling professional to join the Commercial Cell Culture Development Department located at Framingham, MA in the role of Scientist.  The Global Cell Culture Development group within Sanofi operates with the mission to develop robust, scalable and innovative cell culture processes for Sanofi’s very diverse early and late-stage biologics pipeline.

 

We are looking for a candidate with excellent scientific and communication skills to join a team of upstream development scientists and engineers.  He/she is expected to work collaboratively with others in the team to execute complex Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell culture experiments and to establish and implement best laboratory practices. In addition, this role will play a key part in advancing modelling, digitalization, and data science applications in upstream process development—including multivariate data analysis and machine learning tools.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong biotechnology/chemical/bioprocess engineering background and a passion for integrating experimental science with modern modelling approaches to accelerate process understanding and development.

The Global Cell Culture Development group within Sanofi operates with the mission to develop robust, scalable, and innovative cell culture processes for Sanofi’s diverse early and late-stage biologics pipeline. We are looking for a candidate with excellent scientific and communication skills to join a team of upstream development scientists and engineers. The Scientist is expected to work collaboratively with others in the team to complete complex experiments and follow best laboratory practices.

Main Responsibilities:

• Independently execute CHO upstream process development experiments at lab scale. Align experimental approaches to overall project goals.

• Prepare experimental protocols, perform troubleshooting, and author technical reports.

• Act as a key driver for advancing new modelling approaches for cell culture development across multiple projects.

• Serve as a subject matter expert in modelling, data architecture and digitalization for cell culture process development.

• Independently execute model construction, evaluation and implementation across projects.

• Collaborate cross functionally with modelling, automation, and digital teams to advance modelling and data architecture in cell culture.

• Participate in initiatives to improve modelling approaches in upstream process development.

• Maintain high quality deliverables, open communication, and a collaborative working environment.

• Contribute to project teams that develop and implement industry leading cell culture production technologies and platforms.

About You

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with 2 years of experience OR

• Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with modelling focus in one or more of mechanistic cell models, machine learning, AI, or multivariate analysis.

Other Qualifications:

• Experience in CHO cell culture and completing cell culture experiments with aggressive timelines and the ability to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities; biotech/pharma industrial experience (preferred) within a mammalian cell culture role and a good understanding of the theory and practice of cell culture process development. Demonstrated interest and proficiency in modelling and digitalization preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency executing, analyzing, and troubleshooting cell culture experiments and development projects in high throughput models, benchtop systems, and/or pilot scale bioreactors. Proficiency in modelling (ML, GenAI, coding, and digital architecture) applied to cell culture development.
• English proficiency

The salary range for this position is:

$75,000.00 - $108,333.33
