CDCA

SUMMARY:
The Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) provides support in the delivery of substance use 
treatment services under the supervision of licensed clinical staff. Responsibilities include assisting with client 
assessments, facilitating groups, crisis intervention, documenting client progress, and supporting case 
management activities. The CDCA plays a vital role in client engagement, relapse prevention, and promoting 
recovery in accordance with ethical standards and organizational guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Under supervision, ensure all activities and assigned programs align with the mission, vision, and values of 
New Day Recovery.
• Accurately complete intake and discharge documentation in a timely manner.
• Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans as needed.
• Coordinate and facilitate referrals for ancillary services when appropriate.
• Communicate with courts, treatment centers, and other relevant services, conduct follow-ups as 
necessary.
• Communicate clients’ needs to case manager, medical, and primary counselor. 
• Provide group therapy / group education, actively engage clients, and facilitate family sessions upon 
request.
• Deliver outreach services and case management support to primary clients as needed.
• Prepare written reports, maintain detailed notes, and summarize client progress in accordance with 
program standards and ethical guidelines.
• Contribute to curriculum development and oversee client supervision activities.
• Actively participate in staffing and team meetings.
• Must be able to deescalate and provide crisis interventions. 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform other duties as necessary to accomplish objectives. 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Combination of experience and education normally represented by High School Diploma with 1-2 years 
relevant work experience required. Have completed 40 hours of education in chemical dependency 
counseling/clinical methods.
• Must have a CDCA certification
• Must have knowledge and experience working with alcohol/drug assessment and case management.
• Must be able to form good working and therapeutic relationships.
• Must be organized, detail oriented and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Must possess group work skills.
• Must have competent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Good working knowledge of computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Experience working with a team of professional staff is desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
