Job Description

The Category Manager, Alcohol (Central & West) is responsible for owning the end-to-end category strategy and financial performance for Beer, Wine, and Spirits across Gopuff’s Central and West regions. This role drives product sales and margin through assortment productivity, pricing optimization, promotional planning, supplier negotiations, and product placement.

We are seeking a seasoned, product-focused merchant with deep alcohol industry expertise and a strong analytical foundation. The ideal candidate is an opportunistic thinker who can partner effectively with cross-functional teams—including Supply Chain, Marketing, Planning, Business Development, Finance, and Digital Merchandising—to build localized, high-performing assortments that exceed financial goals.

This role will lead all alcohol initiatives for the Central and West states, work closely with the Category Manager overseeing the East Coast, and collaborate with Category Managers across our retail business (BevMo!) to deliver cohesive, cross-banner strategies. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, comfort operating in a highly regulated environment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.

Gopuff values creative problem solving and in-person collaboration to drive quick, informed decisions. This role follows a hybrid schedule, with three in-office days per week (Tuesday–Thursday) at our Miami or Philadelphia hub.

You Will:
• Own the end-to-end category strategy and financial performance for Alcohol across the Central and West regions
• Develop a deep understanding of Gopuff’s on-demand and retail (BevMo!) businesses, internal processes, and assortment architecture
• Manage revenue and margin performance against budget, including OTB ownership and presentation in cross-functional forums
• Lead product selection, pricing, positioning, promotions, and go-to-market execution across Beer, Wine, and Spirits
• Build and execute merchandising and category strategies that drive sales growth, margin expansion, and key performance metrics
• Monitor performance across multiple classes, markets, and locations, using data to inform actionable, forward-looking strategies
• Leverage internal and external data sources to make informed, data-driven decisions that drive incremental sales and profitability
• Serve as the primary point of contact for supplier partners and new business opportunities, including negotiations and relationship management
• Develop localized assortment strategies that reflect regional volume, size, distribution needs, consumer preferences, and regulatory considerations
• Partner closely with Supply Chain, Pricing, Finance, and Marketing to maximize revenue and financial targets within each classification
• Conduct national and local competitive pricing and assortment analysis to ensure strong market positioning while meeting margin objectives
• Stay current on industry, consumer, and competitive trends within the alcohol category, applying insights to strategy and execution
• Ensure category decisions align with applicable state and local alcohol regulations

You Have:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Merchandising, Business, or Economics preferred
• 7+ years of experience in Retail Buying, Merchandising, or Category Management, with deep experience in the Alcohol industry
• Strong proficiency in Excel (required); SQL experience a plus
• Solid understanding of Supply Chain, Marketing, Pricing, and Financial Planning principles
• Proven ability to own results, take initiative, and operate with accountability in a fast-moving environment
• Strong sense of urgency with the ability to react quickly to changing business needs
• Experience managing, training, and developing talent, either through direct people leadership or matrixed teams
