Job Description

Cataract Counselor / Ophthalmic Technician

Are you passionate about helping patients navigate their surgical journey while supporting physicians in delivering world-class eye care? Do you thrive in both patient counseling and hands-on clinical work in a fast-paced medical environment?

Who We Are
Fraser Valley Cataract & Laser (FVCL) is a rapidly growing ophthalmology clinic specializing in advanced eye care and surgical procedures. Our team of nationally recognized ophthalmologists provides comprehensive services, including MSP-covered exams and surgeries, private lens procedures, and LASIK.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Cataract Counselor / Ophthalmic Technician to join our full-time team. This unique role blends patient counseling with technical clinical support. You will guide patients through their cataract and refractive surgery journey while also performing ophthalmic testing, assisting physicians, and supporting surgical procedures.

Training & Locations
This is a multi-site position. Training will take place at our Abbotsford and Surrey clinics during the first three months. After training, weekly schedules may include Abbotsford, Surrey, Chilliwack, and Langley as needed (e.g., 2 days in Abbotsford, 2 in Surrey, 1 in Chilliwack). Flexibility and willingness to travel are required.

Key Responsibilities

Educate and counsel patients on cataract and refractive surgery options (RLE, ICL, LASIK, PRK).

Manage surgical slating, create charts, and coordinate follow-up calls.

Compile and analyze monthly KPI reports.

Perform diagnostic tests (OCT, visual field, topography, A-scan, Pentacam, etc.).

Conduct patient workups, histories, and visual assessments.

Assist during cataract and eyelid surgeries, laser procedures, and scribe for ophthalmologists.

Ensure accurate charting, maintain inventory, and support clinic administration.

What We’re Looking For

2–3 years of ophthalmology or medical clinic experience preferred.

Knowledge of cataract and refractive surgeries (asset but not required).

Excellent communication skills, especially with elderly patients.

Proficiency with Google Drive, MS Office, and Accuro EMR.

Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and multitasking ability.

Comfort with diagnostic equipment; fluency in Mandarin or Hindi is an asset.

What We Offer

Full-time role in a collaborative, patient-focused team.

Structured 3-month training in Abbotsford and Surrey.

Long-term placement across multiple clinics.

Opportunity to work in a nationally recognized surgical center.

A dynamic mix of counseling, technical skills, and patient care.

If you are ready to join a dedicated team that prioritizes exceptional patient experiences, please email your resume, cover letter, and wage expectations. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a working interview.

Candidates without direct ophthalmology experience are welcome to apply if they demonstrate a strong work ethic and ability to learn quickly.
