Located on the campus of the University of Canberra (UC), the University of Canberra College (UCC) is an independent enterprise and a premier pathway provider for the University. UCC is dedicated to making quality university education accessible to all, specialising in preparing both Australian and international students for successful university study. The College offers a range of preparatory courses designed to equip students with the academic and language skills needed for university success.

We are currently seeking a dedicated casual teacher to join our Enabling Program teaching team. This role involves delivering high-quality teaching to help students build their academic skills and capacity for tertiary study, and contributing to the supportive and inclusive learning environment that UCC prides itself on. Teaching experience in TAFE, RTOs or high school environments is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of adult learning theory and principles to effectively engage and support learners in an enabling program.

This is an onsite role based in Grafton, NSW, Australia (CUC Clarence Valley). There is no remote work option. Given the casual nature of this position, working hours and patterns may vary weekly. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia, as this role does not offer visa sponsorship.

Primary responsibilities:

• Under the instruction of the Unit Convenor and/or Program Coordinator, prepare and deliver face-to-face teaching and learning activities.
• Provide consultation to students as needed.
• Follow up and report non-attenders and students at risk of failing the course.
• Mark assessments when required, enter grades on the relevant systems, and provide constructive and detailed feedback to students.
• Monitor Canvas (Learning Management System) activities.
• Maintain accurate records, including attendance and the gradebook in Canvas.
• Supervise assessment activities.
• Attend moderation meetings when required.
• Attend College staff meetings as required.
• Undertake general administration associated with the role.
• Other tasks relating to the role as required.

Essential selection criteria: 

• A minimum of a diploma qualification with demonstrated extensive experience in an education setting.
• Demonstrated high-level communication skills and the ability to work with a small team of teachers remotely.
• Demonstrated understanding of student equity and access, including the ability to identify and address barriers to ensure equitable opportunities for all students.
• Experience in working with students of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness.
• Demonstrated skills in electronic information management.
• Must hold a Working with Children Check (WWCC) registration.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to principles of equity and health and safety in the workplace.

Desirable selection criteria: 

• Experience in TAFE, RTOs, tertiary and/or high school education environments
• Developed strategies for engaging students in pathway programs
• Experience in teaching mixed academic skill level students
• Understanding of the TEQSA framework (if relevant)
• Track record in professional development
