About the Role
Carrier Dispatchers/Coordinators act as a central communication point for truck drivers and brokerage partners, effectively overseeing the movement of freight between customers and carriers. In this role, you’ll strategically source loads based on carrier preferences, communicate market conditions, and help position trucks for profitability. Success requires strong communication, organization, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in a high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with Mercer agents in your assigned region to support coverage of available shipments using contract carriers
Match available trucks with available freight to maximize efficiency and profitability
Handle inbound calls to maximize carrier availability and load coverage
Make outbound calls to offer freight to outside carriers and promote Mercer opportunities
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with carriers to encourage repeat business
Address and resolve issues that arise during transport, ensuring high levels of carrier and customer satisfaction
Update brokerage systems with accurate shipment status and carrier activity
Work with carriers already hauling Mercer freight to identify reload opportunities within Mercer’s network
Who You Are
Strong communicator with a positive, professional phone presence
Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Calm, composed, and solutions-oriented under pressure
Relationship-driven with a customer service mindset
High School Diploma or GED required
Bonus: Experience in dispatching, brokerage, logistics, customer service, sales, or call centers
