Cargo Receiver

Cargo Receiver Is responsible for receiving and processing all loose cargo entering and exiting the marine shipping terminal.  This includes truck deliveries with loose or bundled freight, including machinery and automobiles, and loose freight that is received as imported cargo.  This role ensures that cargo entering the terminal matches the provided documentation, complies with safety and security standards, and supports efficient gate operations. This position interacts directly with customers and / or their transportation vendors and requires a customer-focused approach for excellent service. Bi-lingual English / Spanish required. 

Key Responsibilities:

Cargo Verification:

Inspect inbound and outbound cargo at the gate or in the terminal to ensure it matches shipping or receiving documents.

Document all information when receiving cargo, including reviewing booking information, delivery tickets, container/trailer numbers, seals, load conditions, and other identifying details.

Verify driver credentials and trip documentation (e.g., delivery orders, bills of lading).

Document cargo movements by filling out Dock Receipts and Warehouse Receipts.

Inspect vehicles and other cargo for damage, take measurements, take pictures, and document the conditions of all items received.  

Communicate with internal teams; Operations, Traffic, Sales, and others to coordinate cargo handling.

Ensure correct consolidation of cargo in preparation for loading and follow standard practices for cargo handling and lashing.

Security and Safety Compliance:

Monitor cargo for signs of tampering, unauthorized materials, or hazardous conditions.

Ensure gate procedures comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Report security violations, suspicious activity, or safety.

Communication and Coordination:

Work closely with gate security personnel and yard staff.

Relay issues such as incorrect paperwork, load discrepancies, or rejected cargo.

Support efficient flow of cargo by minimizing delays at entry/exit points.

Skills and Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

1–2 years of experience in cargo, gate, or terminal operations (preferred).

Familiarity with cargo documentation and logistics processes is a plus.

Technical Skills:

The employee is responsible for

Basic computer literacy and ability to use gate or inventory management systems.

Understanding of shipping documents (bills of lading, delivery orders, etc.).

.              Requirements:

Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record.

The position requires a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), Must be a Permanent Resident or Citizen, and able to pass a federal background check, and obtain the TWIC within 30 days.

Able to obtain an internal forklift certification within 90 days.

Must be able to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.

Able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

Able to drive a variety of vehicles.

Able to establish and build relationships with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
