Responsibilities:
The Cardiac Echo Tech/ Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the echo lab, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality improvement. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the anatomy and pathology. The sonographer is proficient in performing simple and complex echocardiograms, as well as stress echocardiography. The sonographer should have knowledge in diagnostic digital images and hemodynamic data for physician interpretation. Work closely with Cardiologists to obtain optimal echocardiography quality.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from a formal Cardiovascular Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Must be a Registered Cardiac Sonographer, credentials RDCS or RCS. BLS certification required.
Additional skills required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing; good communication skills, capable of functioning alone in diagnostic rooms; working knowledge of various types of ultrasound equipment, able to adapt to new and various situations and procedures according to age of patient served. Has ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his or her age specific needs. Basic computer skills.
