Capacity Strategist
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Department: Logistics / Transportation
Reports To: Vice President, Operations
Job Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Capacity Strategist to oversee carrier sourcing, capacity development,
and rate management across our transportation network. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, cost-effective
capacity to support both existing and new business, while building strong relationships with carrier partners and
driving continuous performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Carrier Sourcing & Network Expansion:
Identify, evaluate, and onboard new carriers to expand capacity across key lanes and regions
Develop and execute strategies to strengthen carrier coverage and reduce capacity gaps
Maintain a diversified and reliable carrier base aligned with business needs.
Capacity Planning & Development:
Build and manage capacity in core and emerging lanes to support current and forecasted demand
Collaborate with internal teams to anticipate volume fluctuations and proactively secure capacity
Ensure consistent service coverage during peak and off-peak periods
Rate Negotiation & Cost Management:
Negotiate competitive rates and contractual terms with carriers
Monitor market trends and adjust pricing strategies accordingly
Balance cost efficiency with service quality and reliability
Operational Support & Execution:
Secure capacity for daily freight requirements and ensure timely coverage
Troubleshoot capacity shortages and implement contingency solutions
Support ongoing operations to ensure service levels are met or exceeded
Carrier Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with carrier partners
Conduct regular business reviews to assess carrier performance (KPIs, service levels, compliance)
Address performance issues and implement improvement plans as needed
Project & Quoting Support:
Collaborate with sales and operations teams to quote new business opportunities
Source capacity and develop pricing strategies for new lanes and projects
Participate in carrier meetings and presentations related to new initiatives
Qualifications:
3–7 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or capacity procurement
Proven experience in carrier sourcing, rate negotiation, and capacity planning
Strong understanding of transportation markets and industry trends
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Effective communicator
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
