About the role
The Capacity Manager is responsible for ensuring that the telecommunications network, infrastructure, and IT services have sufficient capacity to meet current and future demand. This role involves monitoring, analysing, and forecasting network usage to optimize performance, prevent congestion, and support business growth. The Capacity Manager collaborates with engineering, operations, and business teams to align capacity planning with strategic objectives while maintaining cost efficiency and service quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Capacity Planning & Strategy
Develop and maintain a capacity management strategy to support telecommunications network performance and scalability.
Conduct demand forecasting based on traffic trends, subscriber growth, and business expansion plans.
Define and monitor key capacity metrics (e.g., bandwidth utilization, CPU load, memory, storage, and network throughput).
Ensure cost-effective resource utilization while maintaining service quality and customer experience.
Network & Infrastructure Performance Management
Monitor
real-time and historical performance data for mobile, fixed-line, and IP networks.
Identify potential bottlenecks, congestion risks, and system overloads before they impact service delivery.
Work closely with network engineers and architects to optimize network resources and plan upgrades.
Ensure load balancing, redundancy, and failover mechanisms are in place for network resilience.
Capacity Forecasting & Optimization
Utilize AI-driven analytics, trend analysis, and predictive modelling to forecast capacity needs.
Recommend scaling strategies, including infrastructure upgrades, cloud expansions, or spectrum allocations.
Optimize radio access networks (RAN), core networks, and data centres for efficiency and cost control.
Evaluate 5G, fibre, and broadband expansion plans to ensure they align with future demand.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting
Work closely with
business teams, product managers, and customer experience teams to align capacity with market demands.
Provide regular capacity reports and insights to senior management, highlighting risks and recommendations.
Collaborate with vendors and partners to ensure the supply chain supports capacity expansion needs.
Support IT and operations teams in ensuring data centres, backhaul networks, and any management systems have adequate capacity.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with
industry regulations and service level agreements (SLAs) related to network performance and capacity.
Conduct capacity risk assessments to identify critical vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies.
Ensure alignment with telecommunications standards (e.g., ITU, 3GPP, MEF, TM Forum).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Expertise
Strong understanding of telecom networks, infrastructure, and technologies (e.g., LTE, 5G, VoIP, fibre optics, MPLS, VXLAN, etc).
Experience with capacity planning tools, performance monitoring, and network analytics platforms.
Knowledge of data centre capacity management.
Expertise in traffic modelling, demand forecasting, and statistical analysis.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
Ability to analyse large datasets and extract actionable insights.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills to optimize capacity utilization.
Experience with predictive analytics and machine learning for capacity planning is a plus.
Leadership & Communication
Ability to work cross-functionally with network engineers, IT teams, business leaders, and external vendors.
Strong reporting and presentation skills for communicating capacity strategies to senior management.
Experience in budget management and cost control related to network expansion.
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
5+ years of experience in network capacity planning, performance management, or telecom engineering.
Relevant certifications such as:
Certified Telecommunications Network Specialist (CTNS)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Service Provider
Huawei Certified Network Professional (HCNP) Service Provider
ITIL Capacity & Performance Management Certification
5G/4G LTE Certifications (e.g., Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, or equivalent)
