Our Bridges Team is seeking a part-time Social Work Coordinator (Adult Program Support Worker) for the summer. The summer staff will work with adults (18-60 years old) living in chronic poverty, out of our Regent Park location.
Please note that this job opening is for Canada Summer Jobs applicants only, who must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with the Employment and Social Development Canada as outlined:
between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Work as part of a team to provide relief services to adult community members
Be onsite to focus on relief efforts (food bank and meal distribution)
Provide administrative support for programs
Build rapport with program participants
Provide community participants with advocacy support
Work with the supervisor to provide individual goal setting support to adults
Support our Bridges community trips
Other duties as required
Qualifications:
Flexible and enthusiastic team player, with a teachable spirit
Passion for individual development and transformation
Knowledge of issues facing those in chronic poverty
Capacity to relate to those experiencing a spectrum of mental health challenges
Comfortable with a professional, non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach
Understand and practice client confidentiality
Experience in a multicultural and/or multi-faith setting
Computer skills should include Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Social Media
Ability to stand for long periods of time and use stairs
Ability to carry up to 30lbs
Education in social services, seminary or a related field of study preferred
Additional:
A police check will be required
