JOB POSITION SUMMARY 

The Buyer/Planner role is responsible to purchase parts and obtain quotes from both internal and external suppliers. This role works to identify and best utilize a network of preferred and approved suppliers by working with Global Sourcing Department. The Buyer Planner evaluates effectiveness of suppliers in terms of pricing, on-time delivery, performance, and quality.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Negotiate with suppliers to obtain quotations, prices, and deliver times from both internal and external suppliers. 

• Evaluate vendor quotes and services to determine compatibility with company objectives. 

• Coordinate purchasing activities with other departments to maintain inventory at planned levels.  Evaluate inventory levels and adjust order requirements accordingly. 

• Review opportunities for new supply sources and suitability of materials offered. 

• Create Purchase Orders and maintain purchasing data in SAP. 

• Work with suppliers to resolve non-conforming product issues and expedite orders.   

• Approve invoices for payment and reconcile receipt and invoice discrepancies.   

• Work with Global Sourcing to identify and best utilize a network of Preferred and Approved suppliers. 

• Identify and implement cost saving initiatives.   

• Evaluate effectiveness of suppliers in terms of pricing, on time delivery performance, and quality. 

• Perform other duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:  

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.  

• Knowledge SAP system and associated purchasing and inventory modules. 

• Knowledge of Manufacturing processes and ability to read blueprints is preferred. 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 

• Three or more years of buying experience in a manufacturing environment. 

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  

• Up to 10% travel required
