Job Description

The Centre for Advance MRI (CAMRI) located at the Grafton Campus is the first MRI venture in New Zealand to focus on high-end research capability as well as clinical training and specialist clinical imaging. Drawing on a successful track record with University research, CAMRI also provides MRI research expertise and resources to commercial and government organisations. CAMRI works with a wide range of customers including Te Whatu Ora/Health NZ, private health specialists, University and non-University researchers, and has been involved in many national and worldwide clinical trials.

CAMRI has two MRI scanners, one located on the Grafton Campus and one on Level 5 Radiology Department in Auckland City Hospital and is accredited by the International Acreditation New Zealand

UoA Teaching Clinics 

The Teaching Clinics include four specialised services: Optometry, Hearing and Tinnitus, Nutrition and Dietetics and Speech-Language Therapy. The Teaching Clinics are located at the Grafton Campus and are student-led clinics operating under the supervision of highly experienced clinicians. This structure ensures students can confidently translate classroom learning into real-world clinical practice. Our clinics are open to the public, and health professionals are welcome to refer patients.

Advanced data analytics and reporting is essential to drive informed decision-making and business performance optimisation. This role focuses on producing accurate forecasts, uncovering trends, and providing actionable insights to senior management. It also enhances data governance processes while ensuring compliance with privacy and regulatory standards.

The primary responsibility is to support CAMRI by leveraging data to maintain operational viability and strategic growth. Additionally, the role will assist the Teaching Clinics by enabling access to data, interpreting key metrics, and recommending improvements to business processes.

Key responsibilities include:

Data Modelling and Analysis

• Extract, transform, load for software intercompatability across various platforms and data sources CAMRI and Teaching Clinics may need to access / use.
• Analyse data from CAMRI and Teaching Clinics primary operating systems and financial systems to accurately determine the true costs of current and planned activities and investments.
• Design and implement data models to support monthly and annual reporting on service performance and activity metrics.

Collaboration, communication and contribution

• Work cross-functionally with the CAMRI team and UoA Teaching Clinics, the finance team and external parties key to the role.
• Translate complex information into actionable insight, tell a story using the data using visualisation tools to identify opportunities and risks.
• Produce high quality, easy to read plain English reports with expert interpretation and insight.

Service improvement, innovation, and compliance

• Proactively identify trends and issues, be curious and ask questions.
• Look for opportunities for analysis and insight, including investigating new potential sources of information and revenue.
• Incorporate innovative thinking into all work.

Essential:

Tertiary degree in appropriate discipline (data science, computer science, software engineering, information technology, business information systems, mathematics, statistics, or similar).

Minumum 5+ years’ experience as a data analyst (or similar).

Preferred:

Master’s degree in analytics, data science or computer science or software engineering.

Experience using Excel plug-ins such as Modano, patient management systems software (which utilises SQL Server architecture).

To be considered for this role, you must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid New Zealand work visa.
