We have an exciting opportunity for a driven Business Development Manager to join our join our Waikato sales team. This role focuses on building and growing new business within the SME market; helping our customers align their sustainability goals with WM’s circular economy initiatives.
The role
Reporting to the Sales Manager, you will play a key role in driving growth through strategic prospecting, relationship building, and value-based selling. You’ll identify new business opportunities, develop tailored waste and resource recovery solutions, and showcase how WMNZ can help businesses achieve their environmental and sustainability objectives.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Meeting or exceeding new business sales targets and revenue goals
• Proactively sourcing and managing a strong sales pipeline using Salesforce
• Engaging with prospects to understand their challenges and provide tailored solutions
• Preparing and delivering professional proposals, quotes, and presentations
• Collaborating with Operations and Marketing teams to deliver campaigns and initiatives
• Building strong networks and promoting WMNZ’s services at events and through lead generation
• Managing the end-to-end sales cycle from opportunity generation through to close
• Providing insights and feedback to support continuous improvement in sales and marketing initiatives
This is a dynamic, fast-paced role where every day brings new challenges and opportunities; from identifying market trends to helping customers transition to sustainable waste management practices.
About you
You’re proactive, resourceful, and commercially astute. A confident communicator, you thrive on connecting with people, building trust, and creating win-win outcomes. You’re motivated by results and have a genuine passion for sustainability and doing what’s right for the planet and our customers.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
• 2+ years’ experience in business development or sales, preferably in a service industry
• A proven record of exceeding sales targets
• Strong B2B and value-based selling skills
• Experience with lead generation and stakeholder engagement
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management abilities
• Knowledge or interest in sustainability, circular economy, and resource recovery desirable
