Business Development Manager - Decentralized Science

The company is currently partnered with a pioneering blockchain project dedicated to revolutionizing social science research. By leveraging decentralized technology, they aim to create a suite of tools that enhance crowdsourcing, surveys, and experimental research—combining the functionalities of platforms like Prolific, MTurk, and Qualtrics—while ensuring data privacy and research integrity through on-chain operations. Their mission is to empower researchers, improve the quality of social science data, and drive real-world impact. Recently funded by forward-thinking investors, the team poised for rapid growth and innovation.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Manager to join their team. This role will focus on building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including advisors, academic institutions, and research organizations, to support the team’s mission. The ideal candidate will have a passion for blockchain technology, an understanding of social science research ecosystems, and a proven track record of forging partnerships and driving growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Advisor Recruitment and Onboarding

• Identify and engage leading Education, Web3 experts, blockchain advocates, and social science thought leaders to join the advisory board.

• Craft personalized outreach strategies (e.g., emails, presentations) to attract high-caliber advisors.

• Coordinate introductory calls, deliver project overviews, and facilitate demo sessions to secure advisor commitments.

• Maintain relationships with advisors to ensure ongoing collaboration and input into the project’s development.

• University and Research Institute Collaborations

• Develop and execute a partnership strategy targeting universities, research institutes, and academic communities globally.

• Pitch tools and vision to faculty, researchers, and department heads to secure pilot programs, research collaborations, or institutional adoption.

• Negotiate agreements and MOUs to formalize partnerships.

• Explore opportunities for joint research initiatives, grant applications, or co-hosted events (e.g., workshops, webinars).

• Business Development and Ecosystem Growth

• Identify and pursue opportunities to expand networks within the blockchain, Web3, and social science research sectors.

• Represent the company at industry conferences, academic events, and networking forums to build brand awareness and generate leads.

• Track and report on BD metrics, such as advisor onboarding rates, partnership agreements signed, and collaboration outcomes.

• Strategic Input

• Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to refine the company’s value proposition for advisors and institutional partners.

• Contribute to fundraising efforts by identifying potential investors or grant opportunities through academic and industry networks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Sciences, Technology, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or relationship management, ideally in tech, blockchain, or academic/research sectors.

• Some understanding of blockchain technology and its applications (Web3 experience is a plus).

• Familiarity with social science research processes, tools (e.g., Qualtrics, MTurk), or academic ecosystems.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for building trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders.

• Proven ability to craft compelling pitches and close deals or partnerships.

• Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment.

• Passion for innovation at the intersection of technology and social impact.

• Existing network of contacts in Academic, blockchain or web3 research communities.

• Experience working with early-stage startups or decentralized projects.

• Background in grant writing or securing funding for research/technology initiatives.
