As part of our ambitious growth strategy, we are looking for a dynamic Business Development Manager to drive the strategy, growth, and management of our Awanui Vet and Scientific business.
About the role | Mō te tūranga:
The Business Development Manager plays a key role in driving Awanui’s growth across the Veterinary and Scientific sectors, with a strong focus on identifying, developing, and converting new commercial opportunities. This role is responsible for building strategic customer partnerships and supporting the delivery of integrated solutions aligned to Awanui’s systems and service capabilities.
Working closely with internal stakeholders across operations, commercial, and technical teams, you will help shape and execute commercial strategies that drive revenue growth, margin improvement, and long-term customer value. This role reports to the Head of Business Development and works collaboratively across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively identifying, developing, and executing new business opportunities within the Veterinary and Scientific markets.
Managing the end-to-end business development cycle, from opportunity identification through to proposal and contract support.
Building and maintaining strong, senior-level relationships with new and existing customers.
Collaborating with internal teams to support the execution of commercial plans and ensure solutions align with customer and operational requirements.
Conducting market and competitor analysis to identify growth opportunities and inform commercial strategy.
Contributing to the development of annual marketing and promotional plans, including client communications.
Working closely with operational teams to ensure service delivery aligns with agreed commercial outcomes.
Monitoring sales performance and contributing to forecasting, reporting, and budget planning.
Providing input into broader commercial initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
About you | He kōrero mōu
To be successful in this role you need to have:
A results driven commercial professional with experience in consultative business development or solution based sales, ideally within the veterinary, scientific, animal health, human health, or medical device sectors. Previous experience in large/production animal health is highly desirable.
A proven ability to identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities, while building and maintaining strong client relationships.
Solid commercial acumen, including experience with pipeline management, forecasting, and contributing to commercial planning.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across functions to deliver aligned customer outcomes.
Confidence using CRM, data, and digital tools to support reporting and decision-making.
Willingness to travel as required, with a clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
