Position Summary
The Buildings & Grounds Coordinator is responsible for the daily care, cleanliness, maintenance, and safety of our 17,000-square-foot school building and surrounding grounds. This is a hands-on, active role that plays a critical part in keeping the school running smoothly.
The Coordinator performs routine cleaning and maintenance, completes repairs, supports school logistics, and responds to day-to-day needs as they arise. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in visible results, enjoys practical problem-solving, and understands that consistency, follow-through, and physical work are essential to a well-functioning school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations & Campus Care
Conduct daily walkthroughs of the building, playground, and perimeter to identify and address maintenance, cleanliness, or safety needs.
Clean and maintain shared spaces throughout the day, including mopping, addressing spills or messes, and ensuring bathrooms and common areas are tidy and functional.
Perform outdoor upkeep such as leaf blowing, clearing walkways, and maintaining play areas.
Assist with morning arrival and traffic safety support.
Cleaning, Supplies & Preventive Maintenance
Restock and maintain bathroom, classroom, and shared-space supplies.
Monitor and service equipment such as dishwashers and laundry machines (filters, rinse aid, lint traps, general condition).
Maintain inventories and complete required logs and checklists on a recurring schedule.
Clean outdoor drains and support seasonal maintenance needs, including light snow removal.
Repairs & Hands-On Maintenance
Complete routine repairs and upkeep, including basic plumbing, light electrical work, painting, hardware installation, furniture assembly, and minor carpentry.
Identify small issues before they become larger problems and either address them directly or escalate as appropriate.
Support pest control, fire safety, HVAC, and other inspections by completing prep work and follow-up tasks.
Logistics, Events & School Support
Assist with classroom and office setup, furniture moves, storage organization, and event setup/cleanup.
Support staff with occasional special projects that arise during the school day.
Be available on-site during vendor or contractor visits to ensure work is coordinated smoothly and minimally disruptive.
Communication & Documentation
Respond to work orders, email, and Slack messages to confirm receipt and completion of tasks.
Maintain accurate logs for inspections, safety checks, and required compliance records.
Collaborate closely with school leadership and staff to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
Qualifications
Required
Experience in facilities maintenance, custodial work, or building operations.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and follow through to completion.
Valid driver’s license.
Team-oriented mindset with a strong focus on safety and care.
Preferred
Experience working in a school or community-based setting.
Comfort using email, checklists, and basic digital recordkeeping tools.
Familiarity with preventive maintenance and inspection logs.
