Role Overview
They are looking for an experienced Bookkeeping Team Lead to oversee a team of bookkeepers and ensure the timely, accurate completion of monthly close processes across a portfolio of clients. In this role, the candidate will provide day-to-day leadership and performance management while maintaining high standards for quality, consistency, and client service. The candidate will review financial reports, monitor operational dashboards, and resolve escalations related to accounting questions, workflow blockers, and client needs.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and confident managing recurring deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will also play a key role in improving internal processes, strengthening controls, and supporting the team. Key Responsibilities
• Lead and supervise a team of bookkeepers, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance management.
• Review monthly reports, including Income Statement and Balance Sheet, to ensure completion of all bookkeeping processes, and complete month-end adjustments to ensure accuracy.
• Own the timely and accurate completion of monthly bookkeeping close processes across a portfolio of clients.
• Review operational dashboards and reporting tools to track progress, identify open items, and drive resolution of overdue tasks.
• Maintain consistency and quality across team outputs by enforcing processes, SOPs, and internal controls.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for bookkeepers, resolving complex accounting questions, workflow blockers, and client issues.
• Maintain organized and accurate document records for each client.
• Identify opportunities to streamline bookkeeping processes, improve efficiency, and enhance internal controls.
• Support training and coaching for the bookkeeping team as new features and tools are introduced to the company's bookkeeping software.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a management role.
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals, including reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statements.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Proven experience managing deadlines and coordinating high-volume recurring workflows.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with both coworkers and bookkeeping clients.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team environment.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial information.
• Proficiency in common bookkeeping software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and excitement to learn the company's proprietary bookkeeping software.
