ROLE TITLE: Boat Building Consultant and Lead Foil Integrator
REPORTING LINE: The Boat Building Consultant and Lead Foil Integrator will report directly to the Director of Vessel Operations.
DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW:
The Vessel Operations Department is responsible for building, fitting out and commission ATL’s eFoiler vessels around the world, as well as any In-field Operations, such as sea trials, demonstrations and service. ATL’s Vessel OPS department utilizes a number of external ship-building suppliers “spokes” around the world ensuring ATL can deliver vessels anywhere in the world meeting international and local regulations.
THE ROLE:
The Boat Building Consultant and Lead Foil Integrator will guide and mentor ATLs staff on all aspects of composite vessel construction, ensuring efficient build processes and high-quality outcomes. This role focuses on coordinating boat building activities, managing workflows, and supporting production teams throughout the build cycle. A key responsibility is leading the integration of foils into each vessel, ensuring proper alignment and installation as part of the overall construction plan. The position involves hands-on involvement in the shop floor, troubleshooting build challenges, and working closely with designers, engineers, and craftsmen to maintain schedules and standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Mentorship & Training: Guide and mentor ATL staff on best practices for composite vessel construction, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development.
Workflow Coordination: Plan and coordinate boat building activities across departments to maintain efficiency and meet project timelines.
Foil Integration Leadership: Lead the installation and alignment of foils on all vessels, ensuring precision and compliance with design specifications.
Quality Assurance: Monitor build processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and resolve any issues that arise during construction.
Hands-On Support: Provide practical leadership on the shop floor, troubleshooting challenges and supporting production teams during critical build phases.
Collaboration: Work closely with designers, engineers, and craftsmen to align construction activities with design intent and operational requirements.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve build efficiency without compromising quality.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure all construction activities comply with safety regulations and company standards.
Required Education/Qualification and Experience
10+ years of experience in leading boat building projects, with a track record of successful projects.
10+ years of experience working with shipyards and suppliers.
Proven ability to influence critical decisions to ensure the right trade-offs are made during production, taking into consideration time-cost-quality.
5+ years’ experience managing teams of craftsmen and women.
Understanding of ship construction methods
Ability to manage and resolve complex challenges related to boat building.
10+ years’ experience working with foiling crafts.
