Job Title: Big Data Engineer

Location: Washington, DC

Duration: 6 Months

Face to Face Must (NO SKYPE) must be Locals to VA/MD/DC

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

• 5+ years experience in data technologies with 2+ years experience with Big Data platforms and analytics.

• Deep expertise in at least one RDBMS platform (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.). MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred.

• Knowledge/Deployment experience of traditional database architecture and its limitations with respect to the collection/ingestion of structured/unstructured data.

• Data modeling experience with conducting performance tuning, backup/recovery, and scalability/capacity planning.

• Experience planning architectures and infrastructures in support of data management processes and procedures.

• Experience designing, developing, and implementing database instances for the development and production environments.

• Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments.

• Experience with hosted cloud storage services such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.

• Understanding and practical knowledge of best practices with data structures, storage and retrieval of massive datasets.

• A strong and independent view of the most cost efficient and effective way of deploying a Big Data infrastructure installation (cloud, appliance, software) - vendor costs plus running costs, including an understanding of all of the additional tools/software required to run the analytics (e.g. Tableau, R, Python, Spark, etc).

• Knowledge of Hadoop (Hbase, Impala, MongoDB, PIG, Hive, Ambari, Flume, HCatalog, Mahout, Oozie, Sqoop, Whirr, Zookeeper etc) is a plus.Proven experience with ETL (extraction from source systems/ traditional data warehouses, loading in to Hadoop environment) is a plus.
