About Luminary Hospice:

At Luminary Hospice, we are a mission-driven organization that empowers our team members to shape our culture in order to allow them to provide the highest quality support to patients and families throughout their entire end-of-life journey.

Our mission is to deliver personalized care that radiates compassion and preserves dignity for all that we are honored to serve on their end-of-life journey. We are centered on caring for the whole person – with expert medical care, pain management as well as emotional and spiritual support along with resources, information, and emotional support for families and caregivers.

About the role:

The Bereavement & Volunteer Coordinator is a hybrid role responsible for two essential pillars of the Luminary Hospice care model: delivering compassionate bereavement support to families and caregivers for up to 13 months following a patient’s passing, and planning, coordinating, and managing all volunteer program activities across the organization. This role serves as a vital bridge between the clinical team, grieving families, and the community volunteers who extend our mission.

Job Responsibilities:

Bereavement:

• Coordinate the assessment and delivery of grief counseling needs and services (one-to-one, groups, and ongoing follow-up) to ensure timely and appropriate services are provided to families and caregivers.

• Plan for Bereavement Program development, expansion, and refinement through annual evaluation of services.

• Provide bereavement support to hospice personnel coping with work-related grief through one-to-one counseling, supervision of interns providing one-to-one counseling, and referral to community resources.

• Provide bereavement information and referral services to callers from the community; expand and maintain community resource list as needed.

• Assist as needed in evaluating and planning services to meet hospice personnel support needs (e.g., yearly retreats and weekly support groups).

Volunteer Program:

• Develop and maintain volunteer training and orientation programs.

• Recruit, educate, and select volunteers through a minimum of three (3) recruitment sessions per year.

• Establish a need for volunteer services with the patient, family/caregiver, and the entire hospice team.

• Supervise and evaluate volunteers in a timely and appropriate manner; maintain current personnel files and monthly statistics.

• Re-evaluate the volunteer program as necessary and coordinate support/education meetings.

• Provide information to individuals and community groups about hospice volunteer services.

• Participate as needed in budget preparation for program development.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced or theological degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Master’s degree in Social Work with qualifications in clinical grief counseling, or equivalent experience, is a plus.

• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a health care setting; three (3) to five (5) years preferred. Hospice and/or volunteer coordination experience strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated understanding of grief response and experience counseling individuals and/or groups regarding loss.

• Ability to supervise, coordinate, organize, and evaluate volunteer hospice personnel for both patient-facing and organizational needs.

• Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy.

• Ability to work effectively as a team member across clinical, administrative, and community-facing functions.

• Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.

• If making home visits, must be a licensed driver with a vehicle insured in accordance with state or organizational requirements and maintained in good working order.
