Job Summary
The Bakery Assistant may be responsible for a wide variety of tasks across numerous departments. The Baker Assistant must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively.
Responsibilities Associated with Performing the Job
General
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
- Follow all Health and Safety, HACCP and Food Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Dough Mixer/Baking /Ovens/Binning Room
- With guidance from Team Lead, mix dough according to different recipes.
- Hand-cut and pick cookies.
- Help organize cookies for the dipping/decorating department.
- Operate ovens.
- Handle paperwork, use right temperatures for different recipes, check water activity.
- Follow supervisors’ instruction in creating skid paperwork for every job.
- Binned cookies must have paperwork, wrapped and moved to warehouse.
Enrobing/Robot Department
- Place designated cookies through enrober according to proper quality, weight, and quantity standards.
- Load and unload cookies based on parameter sheets.
- Move the cookie racks from one spot to another.
- Adhere to quality standards while loading and unloading cookies.
- Separate bad cookies from good cookies and place them on a separate tray.
Yogurt Pit Crew
- Prepare all yogurt following yogurt and food colouring powder recipes.
- Ensures all yogurt vat levels are monitored and maintained, and the Yogurt Vat area remains clean and in good working order.
- Ensure all colour wheels are maintained and prepared when necessary.
- Maintains the Food colouring Powder area.
- Works closely with the enrobing department to ensure colour wheels are ready for production and refilled when required.
- Works closely with the robot department to ensure yogurt tanks are ready for production and refilled when required.
- Strong understanding of what the employee’s role is in product identification and traceability.
Decorating/Dipping/Selmi
- With guidance from Team Lead, pick cookies assigned to dip/decorate for day.
- Prepare workstation with correct colour yogurt.
- Dip/Decorate set number of designated cookies.
- Ensure quality of products meets established standards.
- Peanut Butter Cups/Truffles/Mini Cones.
- Use Selmi machine to prepare icing according to recipe for mini cone, cupcake or cannoli
- Fill selmi treat cups with yogurt manually with the help of the pedal given below and according to the requirement.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
Packaging Department
- With guidance from Team Lead operate packing machine, grommet machine, and other packing equipment.
- Pack cookies as per the order specifications.
- With guidance from Team Lead pack cookies in pizza boxes and apply correct item ingredient label.
- Prepare boxes for shipping by packing in brown boxes and apply correct shipping label.
Skills, Knowledge/Experience Required to Perform the Job
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of baking experience required.
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation,
- and principles of safe food handling required.
- Effective communication skills.
- Highly effective teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail in all areas of work.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Mental Effort Required to Perform the Job
Mental attentiveness and focus is required to perform tasks according to job and customer specifications. Capacity to receive and implement instructions. Job tasks are repetitious. Attention to detail.
Physical Effort Required to Perform the Job
Physical capacity of lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required. Pushing, pulling, griping and climbing stairs required. Seating and standing for prolonged periods of time.
Working Conditions while performing the job
Works within established guidelines in an area that has continuous noise from production machinery. Exposure to noise, dust, odours, fumes, oils, hot and cold temperature. Works in a bright environment.
