WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based in a world class Horizon North camp facility, the regular shift for this position is 20 days on and 10 days off, with 11-hour workdays. Transportation is provided to site from a designated pick up point. 

As a Baker, you will delight our clients by preparing and baking goods to the highest standards of Horizon North.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug, alcohol and fit to work testing as a condition of employment. 

Your work will include:

• Identify areas of improvement on the overall operation as necessary 
• Preparing and baking goods from scratch in large quantities 
• Restocking pastry shelves and maintaining a sufficient and fresh supply of baked goods 
• Creating and following menus to ensure quality of baked goods, squares, pies, cakes and hot desserts 
• Ensuring consistent quality standard in over-all food preparation as per clients’ requirements including consideration to special dietary constraints 
• Complying with food hygiene regulations in accordance with Food Safety Act & HACCP 
• Following all safety regulated policies set out by the organization 
• Cleaning, washing, and sanitizing equipment and over-all work areas 
• Supporting with all roles in the kitchen from dishwashing, to prep cook and meal execution to ensure on time meal service and accuracy of kitchen cleanliness is to company standard.    
• Other duties as assigned.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• FoodSafe Level I is a minimum. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification is an asset.
• Education: Culinary Arts Program Graduate or Red Seal certified Pastry Chef required.  
• Minimum 5 years’ baking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment 
• Proven experience preparing baked goods for large number of guests 
• Prior supervisory experience 
• Ability to stand for a long period of time and lift up to 45 pounds 
• Successful candidates MUST obtain a mark of 100% on the mandatory WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
