About the Role

mediafellows is looking for a Backend Team Lead to establish and lead a Development Hub in Colombia. If you have comprehensive knowledge of Ruby on Rails, are highly familiar with distributed service architectures, and have successfully led teams in the development of complex web applications in a professional capacity in the past, you’re the one we’re the one we’re seeking.

As a Backend Team Lead, you will oversee the development of solutions for our sophisticated SaaS platform MediaStore, an online B2B service for marketing and distribution of audiovisual content – covering content management, video screening, contracting, fulfillment, and delivery. Some of the largest studios, broadcasters, and distributors from around the world rely on our platform solution.

You’ll get to work with a complex, mature code base that comprises multiple services providing various REST APIs. Our architecture stack includes a wide array of technologies, including Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Clickhouse, Redis, Kubernetes, and more. We also explore alternative software development stacks to build and deliver high-scalable quality software, and we are keen to hear your suggestions and discuss your ideas.

About the Contract

Please note that we will start with a 1-year contract, with a high potential for extension if your contributions meet our expectations. Generally, we are interested in a long-term relationship that is built on proficiency, trust, and intercultural collaboration.

Requirements:
What you will contribute ...

• You bring in your enthusiasm, knowledge, and skills to support us in developing the most advanced SaaS solution for audiovisual content management and distribution
• You advise and coordinate your teammates to craft robust, highly optimized software
• You prototype, conceptualize, and optimize backend services for web and mobile apps
• You review your teammates’ code to ensure high-quality and continuous learning
• You are utilizing AI tools to boost development efficiency while guarding code quality
• You ensure that all development is state-of-the-art, easy to maintain, and simple to use
• You mentor others by teaching the best coding and tooling practices
• You help us with introducing new technologies and/or methodologies
• You work across international teams with colleagues in project management, support, development, QA, and design to achieve company-wide goals

What we do expect ...

• You have 7+ years of experience in web application development
• You have programmed in Ruby on Rails for 5+ years
• You have experience in leading teams of at least 5 developers for 3+ years
• You have excellent knowledge of PostgreSQL or another SQL database system
• You have decent experience in building and consuming JSON APIs
• You are passionate about building automated tests using RSpec
• You are familiar with Git and Git-based workflows, including GitHub code reviews
• You can find the balance between maintainability, security, performance, and flexibility
• You are a true team leader and enjoy sharing knowledge proactively
• You have a strong sense of responsibility and ownership
• You have strong autonomy, self-discipline, and the ability to self-educate
• You are fluent in English
