Backend Engineer - Subscriptions

We are a team working on defining the premium and free value propositions, and are seeking a Backend Engineer to join us.

We own a system to define the product features that all our free, mid-tier and premium products have. We are the central source of truth for all existing and new premium products and own datasets and APls that teams around us can use. We are working on new systems to control pricing and discount availability for our premium products. Besides this we also own a system for capping features (e.g. audiobook consumption, on-demand playback, and more).

We are a mature team and we have a good mix of investigation and implementation work and a lot of opportunities to lead initiatives of all sorts of sizes and complexity. We are very fast-paced and have a culture of helping teams that we work with with what they need.

What You'll Do:
Build and deliver end-to-end backend solutions for our core systems, taking responsibility for the quality and maintainability of your code. Lead the implementation of well-defined projects within the squad, coordinating with other engineers to ensure the team successfully meets its goals. Contribute to the evolution of our squad's architecture by proposing and implementing improvements to our existing systems. Work with product managers and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust and scalable technical solutions. Take an active role in the operational health of our systems, including facilitating incident response and improving observability. Improve our team's engineering practices through thoughtful code reviews, clear documentation, and mentoring other engineers.

Who You Are:
You have a strong professional experience building and maintaining scalable backend services. You have a strong command of Java and experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes. You are proficient with cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and have hands-on experience with data systems like BigQuery and data processing pipelines (e.g., using Scio or similar frameworks). You are a dependable engineer who thrives on taking complex, multi-part projects from concept to completion with a high degree of autonomy. You are a strong collaborator who can effectively coordinate with peers to deliver on squad-level initiatives. You look beyond the ticket, understanding the business context of your work and making pragmatic technical decisions to match. You enjoy sharing your knowledge and find it rewarding to help other engineers on your team grow their skills.

Where You'll Be:
This role is based in London or Stockholm. We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
