The Role
As a Backend Engineer – Cloud Infrastructure (Leadership Track), you'll work on the core backend systems of our client's platform and actively contribute to architectural and cloud-related topics.
This role is intentionally designed as a development path with growing technical responsibility. You'll work closely with our client's technical leadership, gain deep insight into architecture, infrastructure, and product decisions — and grow into a key technical role within the company over time.
Alongside backend development, you'll progressively take on more ownership in areas such as:
• Technical architecture
• Technical coordination within the team
• Cloud and infrastructure decisions
• Technical roadmapLong-term, there is a clear path towards a leading role in the engineering team.
What You’ll Work On
Backend Development
• Design, build, and evolve backend components, APIs, and services for our client's platform
• Work with Java-based backend systems
• Integrate databases and external systems
• Ensure performance, scalability, and maintainability across the codebase
Architecture & Cloud
• Contribute to shaping our client's software architecture
• Support the expansion of our client's AWS cloud infrastructure
• Help evolve our client's DevOps processes
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and automation
Technical Ownership
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and tools
• Help prepare and drive technical decisions
• Analyze technical challenges with a focus on pragmatic, effective solutions
AI-Assisted Development
• Actively use modern AI tools in the development process (e.g. Copilot, Claude, or similar)
• Help shape efficient AI-assisted development workflows across the team
Requirements:
About You
Must Haves
• Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a comparable qualification, or equivalent practical experience
• 4–6 years of experience in backend development with Java
• Solid experience with REST APIs, relational databases, and backend system architecture
• Interest in software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps practices (CI/CD, containerization, Infrastructure as Code)
• Structured approach to work with the ability to think holistically about technical topics
• Fast learner, comfortable picking up new technologies, domains, and problem spaces quickly
• Solution-oriented mindset with a feel for pragmatic, commercially sound decisions
• Strong communication skills in both German and English
• Genuine motivation to grow professionally and take on increasing responsibility
Nice to Have
• Hands-on experience with AWS
• Experience with Linux-based operating systems
• Familiarity with monitoring stacks
• Understanding of software architecture patterns
• Experience coordinating technical projects or teams
• Experience integrating AI/ML into development workflows or software products (e.g. LLM APIs, AI agents, prompt engineering)
