Babysitting Course Instructor

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Early Childhood Services, the Babysitting Course Instructor will provide engaging instruction to teens enrolled in babysitting courses while fostering a safe, supportive learning environment. Duties include but are not limited to: following the established babysitting curriculum, teaching essential childcare and safety skills, monitoring and communicating participant progress, maintaining daily attendance and program records, and ensuring a positive and inclusive classroom setting. The instructor will adhere to and enforce all program policies and procedures, complete any required trainings, and assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the classroom space. Additionally, the instructor will recognize and address potential safety concerns and model appropriate behavior for participants. This is an at-will position.
Season Dates: To be determined seasonally
Orientation Dates: To be scheduled upon hire
Hours: Evening classes typically 8 hours per session; each session includes three classes - two 3-hour instructional classes and one 2-hour class with review and testing of skills
Location: Spring Avenue Recreation Center, 185 Spring Ave, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
Must be at least 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate or equivalent
An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, or Education is preferred, or relevant combination of training and experience
Previous teaching experience required
Must be friendly and creative with the desire to engage and educate children
Must have strong communication skills in both verbal and written format to communicate effectively with staff, children, and parents and provide quality customer service
Ability to maintain discretion with regard to confidential matters and/or information
Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to act calmly and effectively under pressure or in difficult situations
Solid computer and keyboard skills preferred
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task a plus
Certification in First Aid and CPR is required but will be provided if not current
