Job Description
Avionics & Test Systems Technician
Specter Aerospace develops next-generation hypersonic flight systems through advanced propulsion, high-performance composites, and rapid test iteration. Our work spans flight hardware and propulsion test operations, requiring highly capable technicians to install, maintain, and troubleshoot avionics, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
As an Avionics & Test Systems Technician, you will work hands-on with both flight and ground systems to install, wire, fabricate, and test avionics hardware and instrumentation. You’ll support system integration, functional testing, and live propulsion experiments, collaborating closely with engineering teams to ensure the reliability and performance of critical electrical systems.
Role & Responsibilities
Install and integrate avionics components, wiring harnesses, sensors, and electrical subsystems on flight and test hardware
Fabricate and route wiring harnesses according to aerospace standards
Perform electrical verification, checks, testing, and functional validation of subsystems
Support testing of flight computers, telemetry links, instrumentation, power distribution, and engine test instrumentation
Install and maintain sensors such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, load cells, accelerometers, and other measurement devices for experimental testing
Commission data acquisition hardware, signal conditioning modules, and test control electronics
Troubleshoot and repair avionics, electrical, and instrumentation issues discovered during integration, bench testing, or live experiments
Assist with pre-test setup, test execution, and post-test teardown in the propulsion test facility, ensuring adherence to safety procedures
Maintain and calibrate test instrumentation, electrical systems, and documentation to ensure repeatable, high-quality results
Collaborate closely with engineers to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and test plans
Job Requirements
Hands-on experience as an Avionics, Electrical, Aerospace, or Instrumentation Technician
Strong skills in wiring, soldering, crimping, and harness fabrication
Proficiency with electrical equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies
Ability to read and work from engineering schematics and wiring diagrams
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex electrical systems
Comfortable working in dynamic, hands-on test environments with electrical systems
Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate documentation and following procedures
Desired Skills
Experience with propulsion test instrumentation or sensors (pressure, temperature, strain, etc)
Familiarity with DAQ and/or PLC systems (e.g., NI, Dewesoft, HBK and Beckhoff, Rockwell)
Aerospace, rocket, or high-speed test facility experience
Military avionics or instrumentation training (AET, 2A6X1) or a technical degree/certificate
Experience with environmental testing or high-temperature/high-vibration systems
