Avionics Equipment Mechanical Design Engineer

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer to join our Avionics Equipment Design team. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in the mechanical design, assembly, and testing efforts for the in-house developed avionics systems of our reusable space capsule. The engineer will also have the opportunity to contribute to main architecture trade-offs as part of a dedicated task force.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Design:

• Conduct detailed mechanical design using Siemens NX.

• Collaborate with the hardware design engineers to gain feedback on the design and implement suggested changes for next design iterations.

• Prepare manufacturing drawings for the components, conduct the standard parts release procedures for the units.

• Prepare the necessary Bill of Material documentations for the units.

• Mechanical AIT:

• Prepare the necessary Assembly Procedure documents for the units.

• Conduct the mechanical assembly of the units, documenting each step (used fastener type, torque, etc.).

• Support the preparation of the Test Procedure documents and Test Report documents.

• Be the Avionics Equipment Team's representative during the vibration and thermal testing of the units.

• Documentation and Reporting:

• Prepare comprehensive reports detailing design decisions, implemented changes between design versions, and recommendations for design improvements.

• Document the conducted Assembly Procedure for each unit assembled.

• Nyx-Earth Task Force, Support and Collaboration:

• Provide support to a dedicated task force focused on Nyx-Earth main architecture trade-offs, contributing to decisions.

• Collaborate with system engineering teams, to ensure the best cross-functional approach to spacecraft design.

What we would love to see from you

In the role of Avionics Equipment Mechanical Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

• Solid understanding of mechanical design and AIT principles.

• Experience with Siemens NX.

• Experience in AIT procedures and

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Eagerness to learn and contribute to a fast-paced, innovative startup environment.
