Your Role as Automation Engineer
Reporting to the Supervisor of Automation Engineering Services, the Automation Specialist will provide PLC/DCS/HMI expertise for automation projects as well as lead design, programming, and commissioning activities, maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. This includes executing, coordinating, and expediting a succession of different engineering activities, as part of capital expenditure projects. In your role, you will establish project strategy, review drawings, and ensure elements of design and detailing adhere to jurisdictional requirements while delivering excellent technical, financial, and social solutions for our clients.
Your Key Accountabilities
Technical and Documentation
Independently prepares and verifies moderate to complex technical calculations and problems.
In collaboration with internal and external subject matter experts, performs and finalizes programming, detailed designs and technical drawings in accordance with applicable codes, regulations and client standards.
Conducts site visits for commissioning activities, data collection, and assessments and to provide recommendations for remedial action. Ensures that build quality is as per design.
Leads QAQC (quality assurance quality control) checks as required.
Completes and reviews project documentation and technical report development.
Assigns, outlines and prioritizes work for engineers or technologists according to project demands.
Business Development & Client Management
Participate in client meetings to gather technical requirements, providing insights and solutions as needed.
Foster relationships with clients by delivering quality work, maintaining professionalism, and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
Assist project managers in tracking project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure on-time delivery.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including scope definition and cost estimation, to secure new business opportunities.
Maintain effective communication with clients, team members, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Manage smaller mechanical and multi-discipline projects, ensuring client satisfaction and project success.
Professional Development
Participates in training and certification programs, as required.
Attends relevant industry workshops and seminars, as required.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Stays up-to-date and evaluates new industry technology.
Provides mentorship and leadership to junior engineers and junior staff.
Engage in learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.
Qualifications
4-7 years of related Automation engineering design experience is required.
A degree in electrical, mechatronics, or software engineering or equivalent is required.
Registered with PEO and holds a Professional Engineering License (P.Eng), or equivalent in Canada.
Extensive knowledge in automation technology and automation products including new and legacy PLC and SCADA systems including, but not limited to:
Schneider Control Expert
Schneider Process Expert
Aveva Solutions (formerly Wonderware)
RS Logix 5000 and/or Studio 5000
Factory Talk Design Studio
Foxboro Galaxy
Foxboro FoxDraw
Emerson Delta V
PI historian
Experience in specifying new automated systems for green field mines and mining plants considered an asset.
Extensive knowledge in commissioning of large systems.
Strong industrial experience, with experience in surface and underground mining.
Knowledge of mining-related processes a definite asset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites applications.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong project management skills considered an asset.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.
Willingness to travel, if required, and attend meetings and field visits on client sites.
Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle is required.
Working Conditions
Hybrid work location options available.
Travel to client sites is required on occasion to attend meetings and to conduct field visits.
Term: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)

Total Compensation
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $ 120,000 CAD per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications; their placement within our internal compensation structure; and relevant geographic cost of living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.
