The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Audio-Visual Field Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in basic to intermediate-level programming, advanced-level commissioning, and troubleshooting of AV systems. This position requires a high degree of technical expertise, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills. This role is responsible for the on-site implementation, configuration, commissioning, and technical validation of complex audio-visual systems. This role bridges system design and real-world execution, ensuring AV solutions are installed correctly, function as intended, and meet both technical specifications and client expectations.
Responsibilities
Deploy, configure, and commission commercial AV systems including conferencing, control, video distribution, audio DSP, and networking components.
Develop and troubleshoot control system projects and scripts at a basic to intermediate level.
Interpret AV drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation to ensure accurate system implementation.
Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure performance, reliability, and usability.
Lead or support on-site technical activities during installations, upgrades, and service engagements.
Collaborate with AV design engineers, project managers, lead installers, and technician teams to resolve technical issues and field conditions.
Provide technical guidance to lead technicians and installers when advanced system knowledge is required.
Conduct client training and system handoff, ensuring user confidence and satisfaction.
Document system configurations, schematic changes, and commissioning results for internal records and client deliverables.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality AV solutions.
Compliance: Ensure all installations and configurations comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
Competencies
Must-Haves
Bachelor’s degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred), or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 3 years' experience in the AV industry, with a focus on field engineering
Strong understanding of professional AV systems, signal flow, and system integration
Knowledge of networking concepts relevant to AV systems (VLANS, QoS, multicast, etc.)
Proficiency in intermediate-level programming (e.g., Biamp, Crestron, QSC, Extron)
Advanced knowledge of AV system commissioning and troubleshooting
Familiarity with networking principles and protocols
Experience with AV-over-IP technologies
Willingness to Travel to Client Sites
Able to Regularly Lift 50+ Pounds
CTS Certification (CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I, or Similar)
Familiarity with unified communications (UC) and video conferencing
