The Boeing Applications & Innovations Artificial Intelligence software team is currently looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join their Artificial Intelligence (AI) team in Huntsville, Alabama.  As part of the Boeing Engineering organization, Boeing AI provides innovative technologies that enable the development of future aerospace solutions while improving the cycle time, cost, quality and performance of existing Boeing products and services. 

A successful candidate will be a motivated early career person who will join our Generative AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) group. They will have programming experience, data understanding, machine learning (ML), NLP and generative AI knowledge. They will develop and innovate Generative AI and NLP aerospace applications for Boeing under Technical Fellow guidance.  They will be comfortable in taking initiative, learning by experience, possess an interest in personal learning, seek feedback from others, and create innovative ideas.  They will get great satisfaction in applying engineering solutions that will work in the real world. The selected candidate for this position must be a U.S. Person to meet export control compliance requirements. A “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Employees work in a dynamic and distributed environment where the initiative and contribution of each team member is critical to success.  The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a distributed and international team. Projects can be multi-year and end with the successful transition and integration of new capabilities to Boeing end product development/deployment. Project work can be funded by Internal Research and Development, Contracted Research and Development, or support to a Boeing Business Unit. 

Position Responsibilities:  

End-to-End Model Development:  

• Design, develop, and iterate on scalable AI/ML solutions, including a focus on Large Language Models (LLMs), information retrieval systems, and advanced ML paradigms.  

• Apply proficiency in Python to deliver clean, efficient, and production-ready code. 

 Machine Learning Operations (MLOps):  

• Drive the MLOps lifecycle by establishing and maintaining robust pipelines.   

• Experience with containerization, model deployment, data management, and monitoring. 

Software Integration: 

• Integrate ML services via API design and implementation into core business applications. 

• Experience in working with databases. 

Communication:  

• Act as a project contributor, successfully implement business requirements into code under senior guidance.  

• Clearly communicate concepts, progress, and insights to diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 

• 1+ years of experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) software development 

• 3+ years of experience programming using Python 

• 1+ years of experience with Object Oriented Programming 

• Experience with performing analysis utilizing various structured and unstructured data sources using tools like python and/or R Studio 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or equivalent exp 

• Experience with search & chat applications. 

• Experience and strong interest analyzing, labeling, and processing unstructured text data.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.   

Summary pay range for Associate Level (Level 2): $112,200 - $151,800 

Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
