Associate Professor
We are inviting applications from accomplished academics for the title of Associate Professor. This is a senior leadership title for an established lecturer who demonstrates a high level of excellence across teaching, research, curriculum design, and industry engagement. The Associate Professor plays a pivotal role in shaping academic quality, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to the intellectual and professional standing of the institution.
Using the updated Table of Progressions and the Application for Academic Progression Guidance as your reference, compile and attach evidence that demonstrates your qualifications and achievements in support of your application for promotion to Associate Professor. Please ensure your documentation substantiates how you meet or exceed the required criteria for this academic advancement.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a Doctorate/PhD in a relevant discipline (preferred), supported by a teaching qualification. In exceptional cases, a Masters degree with a sustained, internationally recognised research profile may be considered. Equivalency will be assessed on merit.
Teaching and Learning
• Provide academic leadership in teaching, learning, and content development.
• Deliver research-informed input into subject-specific information and resources.
• Lead the review and quality assurance of courses and programmes.
• Mentor and support the professional growth of teaching staff.
• Champion evidence-based and innovative approaches to pedagogy.
Programme Design and Development
• Lead curriculum design, providing research and industry-informed advice to shape the development and design of programmes.
• Champion evidence-based and innovative approaches to programme design that enhance graduate outcomes.
• Ensure programmes meet relevant accreditation, quality, and professional body standards.
Professional Development
• Research areas of significance that contribute to the growth of knowledge in your specific area of expertise.
• Engage in ongoing professional development that deepens both disciplinary expertise and educational leadership capability.
Research
Either a PBRF rating of at least a B in the most recent round, or equivalent evidence of research quality and contribution as demonstrated through an independent assessment of research output
Outputs published in peer-reviewed journals and/or peer-reviewed and creative or practice-based work as recognised by PBRF panel guidelines or other established research assessment frameworks endorsed by Whitecliffe.
Support other researchers to develop research capabilities.
Provide leadership in the research environment at an institutional and national level.
Supervise and provide leadership in co-supervised student research
Contribution to Academic, Industry and wider Community
• Provide support, guidance, and research-informed advice for programme and institute-wide initiatives.
• Contribute to and have a significant reputation in related industry and communities locally and nationally.
• Actively contribute to the provision of appropriate academic standards and the development of educational policy, pedagogy, and teaching practice.
